what am i doing wrong

Recommended Posts

Well I have responded to Andy. There are members on here who know who I am and what I do with the utmost of energy obtainable with a PC enabled air weapon. I dont hide the fact, other to say in the end UK air weapon companies are fighting to capture the top end of global sales of the "most power for your buck" air weapon. in fact I have a responce from one of the UK airweapon makers that the USA market is their main objective where they are aiming! So going back to the original post on this subject I have plenty of experience on shooting rabbits. My original reply was to the member who asked at what range to shoot rabbits! I spoke assuming he was the normal type of guy with a bit of land to shoot and not kitted up with the kind of kit to assume he was not a SAS soldier on a stroll around Afghan. Most guys I know who shoot farmyard pests dont creep around farms with the full "Sniper" outfit to pot off a rabbit or two! just to use a bit of (craft) to identify and get close enough to shoot what they are aiming for! my original tip to be able to shoot within 30+ yards still holds true (In my mind) lets face it how often do you have time to get down, drop your bipod, then get a bead on your quarry assuming you aint shooting with 2 foot of grass in front of your vision??....Get real, the only guys who can shoot 10X10 at 35, 40 yards with a air rifle are prone, or benchrested! all this talk about shooting rabbits at 40 yards is Rollocks, FACT.

You did indeed reply to me and I'm sorry I didn't respond sooner :icon_redface: I'm too 'old school' I guess to get too involved with most of the technical stuff you mentioned, my field of experience is from many years back messing around with German and British springers for a living in the 80's and early 90's, since then all I've been doing is looking after my own and friend's guns. I know feck-all about PCPS!!:D

As to the OP's question...... Whatever gun you're useing and whatever position you're shooting from, if you can't stick at least 90% of your shots within around an inch, then that's your limit, whatever the distance IMHO

Ha, Ha, Ha, Well its nice to be responded to! I hold no malice to guys who can outshoot my puny attempts to shoot bunnies at my self imposed max 20 to 35 yards shooting of farmyard pests. my original quote of what should be attempted was guys shooting freestanding of such pests. I am a old git now and there was a time when I have shot for my county, and indeed for my country in international events.there are many people out there who quote 30 to 40 yards as being their norm to take out quarry at such distances but I reiterate again that such distances would need at least a ability to shoot a minimum of a 2 inch group at such freestanding ranges. just as a footnote here next time you are taking a newby out shooting take time out to ask him what kind of range he thinks he is looking at when you point out such distances? I tell you what friends A lot of newbies I have took shooting have thought 25 to 35 yards was 45 to 55 yards. however I digress, Hiya Dave mate, there is no way I will accept you shooting my challenge for 10X10 at 30+ yards! Jeeze you would bankrupt me in no time!! ATB guys.

Its all good mate there is no bad blood here.....Only issue with engine room shots is distance the quarry can get before a bleed out.....i can understand that it is easier to hit the engine room as target area is larger but a nice well placed head shot will drop it where it stands...i have no doubt you can do it James and i look forward to seeing your shooting when you get camera

Yep, take it all in James theres a lot of top shooting guys on here to put you right. My days are in the past and I supose like many shooting springers can look back in amazement at some of the tremendous shots they have pulled off! Sometimes banter is taken as serious but in the end its all good craic. I am glad Dave didnt hit the 10X10 All it needs now is Zinni to come along and make my bank balance even thinner! (If thats possible!) Zinni, Dave! dont do it.
