Ideation 8,216
The Vet thinks the dog has tendonitis between his toes, causing a swollen lump. It's not causing him any major pain at the moment, but has been there for a couple of months, and i've been running him on it (as the previous vet said it was probably just a swelling caused by something stuck in there. Basic question is - anyone had a dog with tendonitis on/in/of the foot, and managed to sort it out with just rest and anti inflams, so that it didnt cause the dog any trouble when working / running? sandymere 8,263
Tendons are notoriously difficult to heal as the take a lot of strain but have a minimal blood supply to aid healing, the chronic form tendonosis. Anti inflams should be short term as they can slow healing of bones and tendons. Where on the toe is it? Pic would be helpful to see what tendon might be involved as it would be an unusual presentation. Bursitis if its over a joint perhaps? Ideation 8,216
THe swelling is between his outside two toes, where the toes become foot, if that makes sense. It's not swollen that much and as he is black, it doesnt show up on a photo. It's not really causing him any pain to walk on it etc. Any chance of it healing up with sufficient rest? Or is it just one of those things that once it goes, its gone, and he will just have to cope with it? Just wondering about its effect long term on his working / running? sandymere 8,263
Difficult to say, an odd presentation, the tendon runs under the digit, if its on a joint then again bursitis type inflammation would be my guess. Either way the summer will give a period for some active rest as in truth I expect only time will tell. Hopefully it will settle or at least remain pretty pain free. I watch and wait and it might turn out to be as the first vet suggested. Regards s
Born Hunter 17,820
I'm struggling to visualise this and just thinking out loud but could it possibly be the result of a disslocation? Not sure on the exact location though. Popped out and back in again causing tendon damage and a lump of scar tissue? Also, if it is bursitis as Sandy highlighted then would a vet possibly prescribe ultrasound treatment as with humans?
