Hoppes Boresnake

Recommended Posts

you could try jamming it up your arse? :tongue2: apparently it sorts out ya tagnuts a treat...

be warned though, don't buy the cheap copies as they tend to break easily and a a bit of a sod to get out.

Thanks for the recommendation, but not my cuppa tea thanks :)

The purists will say don't use one on your HMR as the copper fouling ,carbon & every other type fouling you can get from this round will not be removed by the boresnake.Well for me & my humble CZ i,ve used a bs through it 4 times after over 1000 rounds.Perhaps i'm just lucky with my gun as it shoots several hundred rounds before i will give it a run through, the brass weight can be a bit tight to get down the barrel with all the fouling but once through keep it straight to the crown & pull steadily.

i have one that i was given but iam not very sure about the proper use of one or if you have to clean it and how, so i would like to hear any suggestions (that dont involve my back passage), i am told that alot of british soldiers use them.

i've got a pull through bore cleaning kit for my hmr, it's a little more traditional than the bore snake, the brush screws on the end of a wire, then change over to a patch. and if i cut the patches too big it's a fecker to get through the barrel. in retrospect i think i'd have been better off with a boresnake.

there just a phospher bronze brush in a piece of shoelace with a cord and weight attached, pass the weight through the breech end untill it comes out the end of the barrel and pull the brush though. good for in the field clean, wont replace a proper clean with copper solvent but they have a place, even the old slr had a pull through as part of the cleaning kit as did the 303 prior to it

Yep i use a pull through too for most of my cleaning i think it has just stuck with me from the days of SLR, felt spoiled when we changed to SA80 and we had brushes and rods in the kit and a multi tool too!!!!.

Great job but as paulus says they wont replace a proper cleaning. Use one on the shotgun too. Works very well if the guns still warm, at the end of a nights clay shootin etc. Too clean put it inside a sock with plenty of fairy liquid and put it in the washin machine.Atb Mark

Or just put in a sink with hot water and soap liquid or powder and give it a good soak and rub any crap out..

Used a bore snake on a .222 I had a few years ago. Fired at paper target before and after using the boresnake. Clover leaf group at 100yds before boresnake, after boresnake........... never used it again. My conclusion was..... clean it properly or not at all till the grouping deteriorated.

grand for a quick clean in the field or if your in a hurry but i'd always give a good clean asap...

the hmr is a dirty round, and a fast one for its size, so the barrel needs constant attention..

Snap.
