omegathelast 160
We used to ferret rats all the time years ago.....great sport, just always made sure any bites were cleaned up proper. Quote Link to post
vermin catcher 219
i hunted rats week in week out with ferrets when i was a younger and i found even the best ratting ferrets are reluctant ratters after a couple of hard seasons on them. We learned to use ferrets for only about 6 months or so on rats then keep them solely for rabbits after that as it can be very hard on them. its only small jills that can successfully hunt rats and sometimes the rats are as big or bigger ,and will put up a fair scrap.I also have some horror stories with ferrets loosing eyes (very common) with ratting ,but there is no better and more exciting sport for ferrets. "Earth!" 503
ive had a good ferret ruined by an encounter with a rat, fecking thing refused to go to ground for ages. Quote Link to post
paulus 26
spent countless hour ferreting rats as a kid around the landfill and sewerage works, most jills either give up or get killed you will get the odd one that will keep doing it but are few and far between. if even seen them carry the fight on, on top and trust me the rat doesnt give any quater. i dont ferret anymore but if i did i wouldnt be ratting with them now. Guest vin
You need a special kind of ferret that will take to ratting on a perminent basis. . they all like it until they recieve the PAIN ! and the aftermath of the pain.. we used to do some ratting at a maggot farm and also in the hay bales with the ferrets when we were younger and more energetic... little jills were the best. but to be honest with you...as soon as my mate saw jonny D and his black n tans video we went out and made a smoker the next day... Thats when it got really interesting ! Cant beat a good bit of ratting with a few decent terriers and a smoker.. Quote Link to post
