The Duncan 802
Not really, just no what I shoot lol! I tend not to bother with shooting Rooks except at brancher day of course as they don't major in eating songbirds eggs and nestlings like crows do. If the farmers ask (they havn't in 10 years) then I'll hit rooks, but not until. Quote Link to post
riflehunter583 58
nice shooting. what range where you getting them at? Quote Link to post
Ratsmasher 36
No they aren't, but these are rooks. Honestly I did know that i just have a habit of refering to crows and rooks as crows (dunno why because i still call jackdaws jackdaws) but i still think rooks are pretty tough to get atb Ratty P.S. We have a problem with the ROOKS taking the eggs from our chickens in spring which is a pain when you're trying to recover the cost of feeding them over winter when they stop laying Edited April 2, 2012 by Ratsmasher 1 Quote Link to post

The Duncan 802
May 12th my friend. Been a tradition for over a century whereby the young of the rooks are thinned out by air rifle as they are preparing to leave their nests- they hop about on the branches by their nests and flap about in preparation for leaving the nest (hence branchers). 1 Quote Link to post
miroku moocher 140
well done lad. rook's and a couple 'a' jackdaws there. i think rooks are alot easier to shot than crows. as corvids go i shoot em all crows, rooks, magpies, jackdaws and jays. they are all nest robbin fockers. so i shoot any i see on sight. as for branchers i just go in with a belt of 30grm 6s and knock em back. no particular day just when i'm in the area. wouldnt eat the dirty fockers though i usually see the older rooks on the field with there beaks up a 3 week dead sheeps arse''lol. dirty bassturds. Aaah very interesting... tbh im a bit like Miroku moocher, pop them whenever i can, dont always shoot the jackdaws though they never seem to cause quite as much damage atb Ratty Quote Link to post

Out of interest duncan, do you have a biology related career, or areyou just an expert on corvids? I've always had a deep affinity for the natural world since I could walk, talk and read. I like to know what I'm culling and why I'm culling it - keeps me on very stable moral ground when I head out with a gun or rifle Quote Link to post
