Patt's-patts 0
Just been out getting dog food and in supplier couple had a young welsh terrier.... When I looked I saw that both it's ears were glued to its head?! I asked the bloke and he said its cos they weren't pointing the right way ( forward ) and so they glue them till they set. Is this right?! I've never seen it before - dumb question I know but if it's ears are completely glued flat against its forehead can it still hear?? Quote Link to post
David K 172
Used to have a Stafford that had a bit wayward ears as a pup, stuck them in position for a while with Copydex glue. When the glue had started to break down after a good few weeks his ears where perfect, no harm done if you use a non toxic glue. Wish my mum had done the same for me as a baby! 3 Quote Link to post
wippydoo 12
Its common procedure in show dogs. We also used to put buttons on them in the olden days to strengthen the ear muscles and give better(higher) ear carriage 1 Quote Link to post

Patt's-patts 0
The pup wasn't bothered at all actually! We don't work Irish terriers over here so I figured it was summat to do with showing it. On a separate note I like my dogs docked........ Quote Link to post

reddawn 2,173
when i was a lad growing up, i knew of 1 lakedland terrier that got brought down to yorkshire for an old guy to straighten its gay tail, the ole guy used a knitting needle an pushed it throo dogs tail, an it did straighten, an i know of another dog around the same time that had its ears fixed by puttng coins on them Quote Link to post
j1985 1,983
Yep heard of both glue and buttons/coins...also heard of using old lolly pop sticks to act as a sort of brace when taping or gluing pups ears. Quote Link to post

the_stig 6,614
some well known russell breeders -- used to cut the ears realigned and sticthed .. tattooing pink noses was and old trick aswell -- and a wire brush with 2 bristles left to mark up the muzzle to look like it had done a bit ..all for the sake of a rossette and a bit of plastic ...
