Fenn Traps

He said he wanted genuine Fenn traps not those illegal Chinese junk efforts that fall apart ...

www.fourteenacre.co.uk would be my recommendation

How much I nearly fell off my chair...

As I say I've got a box of brand new unused genuine Fenn Mk6 traps if your looking for any, send me a PM.

Mk 6 Fenn traps....do you mean the ones that are likely to be removed from the spring trap approval order ? ;)

Another nail in the coffin for hunting and trapping if they do.. I'd say the enemy is within.

They are being phased out in New Zealand ,they say that they are inhumane.

In favour of the NZ produced DOC traps no doubt that are ridiculously hard to set in anything but a massive solid wooden tunnel. I visited the factory that makes them in Auckland not long back to talk to the design team - there were so many shortfalls - they had no idea - none of them were trappers, and the person that designed the trap was an engineer so it is hardly surprising really.

Fenn's original tests were so stringent by the Ministry that thousands of other trap designs failed and were discarded - the probelem with the modern Fenn is the power of the springs - it has been the same since they changed their manufacturing process in the 1980's and the Mk 6 was produced - no seperate trials were conducted. All that they would need is a stronger spring to make them humane, killing traps again and all would be well. As a tunnel trap they cannot be beaten

I agree with OTC that a stronger spring on the Mk6 would make it a good humane trap again. My feelings are well known about the Mk6's Killing ability on adult rabbits and exclusively use the Imbra on my rabbiting trapping contracts saving the Mk6 for the little-uns and squirrel and mink trapping duties. If someone could design a light-weight Imbra type trap it would be a godsend because carrying a bag of Imbras about is no laughing matter. Fortunately i can drive along my trap lines and work from the back of the 4x4 which does make life a whole lot easier. As OTC alluded too............Mk6's in a correctly sized tunnel take some beating as many a squirrel and mink will testify.

i seem to do ok with the mk6,s, i do get the odd live bunny , but not that many and a stronger spring would probably fix that problem, also a slight adjustment to the jaw shape would help,i have had some very big buck rabbits in winter , dead and hardly moved the trap, i have had dead mink in 6,s , but most were on drown wires just to make sure , i would never set a mk6 for mink without the backup of a drowning rig
