with the season finished how do you lads keep your dogs fitness up when there is no work for them , obviously the dogs get walked but being as the weather is warm i find my dogs get tired easier and dont think its fair to try and walk them miles .

if you've got a variety in your permission which isnt all fields or woods etc...then you can work them through the year on rats, concentrate on the farm buildings though in the summer they tend to move out but will at least keep the dogs ticking over.

Chicken farms where they clean the sheds out every 10 months there is no cover inside them so they can keep the dogs busy depending how many sheds there are would give you a couple of weeks of activity.

Apart from that i just walk around the farm early mornings and late nights fantastic. Get a chance to relax and observe the wildlife rather than pursue it, deer in the woods, hares are out early doors in the fields catching a bit early sun. Pheasants are all over calling out and being put up by the dogs, the bats are flying around as dusk comes in. Wouldnt have it any other way.
