Gaz_1989 9,539
I know some of you on here get an abundance for free from various sources. I aren't that lucky and even my local butcher charges me for bits of lamb rib and bags of scraps. My only dog at the moment is a small JRT bitch. I've just done a quick tally of what it's gonna cost to feed her completely raw and I'm looking at about £6 a week. That's 2 meals a day as im trying to feed her up, she's been living with my ex for 12 months and lost all her strength, fitness, muscle and loads of weight. Plenty of tripe, chicken mince, butchers scraps, chicken wings, lamb ribs, offal, eggs, fish, brown bread, pasta, veg. Also supplementing with keepers mix daily and cod liver oil 3 times as a week. As you can see there is plenty of good grub there and I'm happy with £6 a week to feed her properly. Just wondering what you lot spend on feeding because I don't think I could afford this if I had a couple of terriers and a lurcher or more. Gaz

billy whizz 141
i feed complete skinners sometimes they get raw but no butchers round here want to do a deal and charge to much for off cuts.
beast 1,884
Mine get rabbits (skinned and gutted) and venison, which cost me nothing and are good feed. occasionally other meat or fish if available. also give cod liver oil and a spoonful of wheat bran daily, if i buy a sack of bran and a gallon of oil it works out as just a few pence per day. i also keep a sack of cheap dog meal in the shed "just in case" but to be honest I think i fed it to them twice last year. hutch6 550
Two collies and a runnign dog of sorts. Per week I estimate it costs about £8. I get 30Kg of chicken carcasses from a poultry supplier (human grade) for £15 and from that I get 4 meaty carcasses per day each (only order fresh and freeze it myself), 2-3 carrier bags of chicken wings and loads of scraps to use as rewards or treats. I go fly fishing a great deal and sell my catch which pays for the day plus some so I'll go back and catch a few for the freezer so they get trout for free more or less. Hoping to add rabbit to their menu courtesy of the running dog. Other than that it is table scraps, butchers now, after much pestering, put any non-weigh bearing bones aside and as long as I pick them up on the day stipulated they don't charge and I have just struck up a bit of a trial with a family run farm shop who do all of their finer butchering onsite meaning I should have the option of lamb and beef bone (non-weight bearing again) fingers crossed. Out of my own food shopping I give them eggs, the odd bit of brown rice, tinned sardines, any surplus fat from roasting joints and also do them some veg to boot. Having re-read that they eat better than I bloody do!!!
