seang 163
i know i tried editing it ment say couple of turns Quote Link to post
chartpolski 23,996
In todays hunting climate, I'd say you need to be "in & out" as quck as possible ! Dogs that take 3,4, 5 + minutes on a hare have never been my type of dog !! Cheers. 3 Quote Link to post

Tiny 7 1,694
I like a fast and up and at them type. But that can also hang abit aswell But fellahs some of them hares will not be caught in the first few bends when your on a dencent sort it will drag em about abit and this is where your fast types tend to get burnt on them hares and found wanting in wind.. But no didint like dogs that run there hare down just sitting behind it not pushing up and down the gears.... 2 Quote Link to post

TOMO 26,313
depends how you look at it,, if your mooching about looking for stuff for the pot,,, then fair enough ,wham bang thank you . but in all honesty thats not testing your dog,, nor is it giving it a work out... watching a dog get tested by a good hare for a minuit or two ,, is far better sport.. funny these sites,,, think most of ya still read plummer books,,,, get your fast dogs tested on some strong fen hares,,,most of them will come up short......over a full season 4 Quote Link to post

As I said, in todays climate it's damn near impossible to test your dog on long runs on a hare in the UK. So,if you are so inclined, you have to have a fast dog that will get it's hare in double quick time !! I'd love to run my Deer/Grey bitch on hares on the land I was hunting last year in Australia; no worry about time or fences, but that aint gonna happen !! So, if I was to run hares here, theoreticaly, as it's against the law ! I would want the dog to be the "up and at 'em" type, rather than the "wear them down" type. Cheers. Quote Link to post

scottish hare hunter 2,345
diffrent kettle of fish arond hear than down the fens...dont get miles of ground to chase them only short tight fields where the dog has to be quick and think about taking at any given chance. so deppends where your working the dogs realy Quote Link to post
TOMO 26,313
that may be the case,,, but im always supriced to here the amount of people that think purpose bred coursing dogs cant do the same,, ive got mates that run the fens,, with there coursing dogs,,, but also catch hares in the dales,, on the tightest of land.. but lets be honest here with yourselfs,,,, who wants to see a hare snatched in up in 10 seconds,,, i cant belive anyone on here would want to see that,, Quote Link to post
