Ferreting rats

Recommended Posts

Im a newbie but I have never heard of that. Rat holes, from my limited experience, are tiny compared to ferrets, hence the need for smokers. I doubt you'll get much back on this mate.

as kids we ferreted rats at maggot farms, but the ferrets did get some bad bites, think some threw the towel in,but we all had plenty of ferrets at that time, found small jills were my best for the job.

yea I'm a kid (12 ) so I am getting a couple of jills this summer for the wheat fields to rat them ( I do it with my terrier butt want to try all )

We used to ferret rats to terriers a lot a few years ago. Many ferrets will bottle it after a few tough encounters but we had a few Jills and small hob or two over the years that loved it. The best were always the fast, hyper Jills - I had a little polecat that was mustard! Remember to make sure your terriers are steady to the ferrets. My terriers would slay rats for fun, work rabbits in cover all day and work fox below ground on permission pre-ban but would play with the ferrets in the garden
