will_gleave 2
Hope someone can help, been offered 2 permissions possibly 3 to shoot rabbit, squirels and fox's, (i have 2 in writing and one offered today while i was working on a farm he will put in writing once he has shown me the 40 acres) however i do not yet hold my fac and the land owners would prefer me to use .22 rf rather that an air rifle for the rabbits and squirels, im currently in the midst of joining a club and have about 1-2 months of probation left before i can join and have been told even though i have the 2 permissions in writing not to apply for my fac until im a member. Can anyone see me having any problems with applying now or should i wait until i have joined the club, just worried the permissions will go if i dont start going to them soon. Thanks meant to say this is for a friend of mine who just emailed the above but i have no answers for him Edited March 24, 2012 by will_gleave Quote Link to post
PMC 2
You don't need to be a member of a club to get your fac mate, they are spinning you a load of crap there. If you have good reason to hold a firearm, which you do as you have pest control on land you have permission to shoot over, then club membership isn't required. Just apply for it bud. PMC 2
Let him see the information on applying in the "firearms certificate" sticky thread at the top of this section. It's got lots of really useful info. PMC Quote Link to post
The one 8,477
It will take a good few weeks for your firearms cert to come threw so you would be as well putting in for it now . Quote Link to post
The Seeker 3,048
Agreed providing you have good reason to own a firearm which this is and you are a suitable person there should be no issue with obtaining a FAC One obstacle you may encounter is if the land/s passed for rf you wish to shoot on. Joining a club is irrelevant. Quote Link to post
SportingShooter 0
If he applies now it might tie in nicely with his shooting club. Going by the time some applications take to process, it could be that as the Enquiry Officer comes to visit he is made a full member of the club and can have the land and target shooting added at the same time Quote Link to post
paulus 26
8 weeks here for a variation, so good knows how long for an initial application Quote Link to post
PMC 2
8 weeks here for a variation, so good knows how long for an initial application Someone I know applied to Devon and Cornwall Police for his coterm FAC/shottie in october last year, waited til January for his visit and then finally got his cert on friday. The whole process took nearly twenty bloody weeks! Apply sooner rather than later as you never know how long the process will be made by your local police. PMC Quote Link to post

Simonrees 45
Surely a lot will depend on why he is on probation........ Quote Link to post
PMC 2
Surely a lot will depend on why he is on probation........ I think it's a probationary period set by the shooting club as a prospective member of the club, as opposed to a period of probation following a conviction of some sort. PMC Quote Link to post

PMC Perhaps he'll come back and clarify because he says he has 1-2 months of probation left before he can join.....I'm not sure what he means by that, unless he means become a fully paid up member or something? will_gleave 2
it's a probationary period set by the shooting club, i belive he needs to complete 6-8 months before he can join. 1 Quote Link to post
