BenjaminCadd 109
This summer i have decided to get a new springer my supsersport is 10 years old and still going strong but showing its age, i shoot mainly second to ferreting so cant say im much in the know about the latest rifles, so went to the same gun shop i got my old bsa from they advised a 6 month ex demo old BSA Polaris underleaver .22 with Hawke Scope 3-9 x 40 Brand new, i didnt doubt them due to the proof my Bsa is still going well at 10years and they are a reputable gun shop so bought it there and then........unaware the fact BSA have sold out to Gamo.... then today first time i have realy got it out the Saftey catch is faulty, tap the trigger a few times while it is on safe and the catch eventuly slides over to fire on it own accord also on closer inspection you can tell the quality is know where near what the old Bsa where? So by rights the Rifle is not fit for purpose with a dodgy saftey catch? I should be able to use the money i paied and put it towards something else? Many Thanks. Quote Link to post
pianoman 3,587
With a defective safety catch you have very justifiable grounds to demand a refund Benjamin! Alas it's true that BSA are not the makers they once were. The Supersport you have was made when the company was still a strong, all-British concern making quality products. I have Wiehrauch and Air Arms spring rifles that are over 10 years old and, apart from replacing worn springs, they go on shooting as smooth and as beautifully true as the day I bought them. They cost a fair bit of money true, but, considering the years of enjoyment and utterly reliable service in the shooting field they've given me, the prices for such guns really is not that dear. And they make a brilliant second hand bargain! Why not get your money (rightfully) back and, if brand new is beyond your budget, what about looking for a 2nd user Wiehrauch HW77 or Air Arms Prosport or TX200 for your underlever spring rifle choices? There will be some real bargains out there right now. All the best. Simon Quote Link to post
secretagentmole 1,701
If he likes break barrels what about a secondhand HW95? Quote Link to post
BenjaminCadd 109
Yes i couldnt agree more Wiehrauch and Air Arms are where i shall go next i just couldnt belive the poor build in this bsa! Quote Link to post
secretagentmole 1,701
Perhaps not build but poor maintenance and a gun shop you might want to consider ignoring. It should have been properly serviced and any worn parts replaced! it is not satisfactory so get money back and perhaps look elsewhere! Quote Link to post
pianoman 3,587
You make a good point about the standard of service here Moley. A bloody poor show, selling a defective air rifle to a good customer supporting the business, in the depths of a recession! Gamo took over BSA sometime ago and the standard of BSA airguns have suffered appalingly with declining, cost-cut build and component quality ever since. Truth is, Air Arms spring rifles and ALMOST ANY Wiehrauch spring rifle will prove itself worth any money spent, in the hunting field. Both these makers are proven, quality gunsmiths and their ranges of rifles are beyond reproach in my experience. The HW77 is honestly the finest, most accurate spring air rifle of the lot for hunting in .22 calibre. In .177 it is bloody awesome -it really is. The HW97 is a modified version and a close second -but bloody brilliant in .177 as a target and sporting air rifle. The HW80 is the finest break-barrel air rifle in the world. The HW95 is it's smaller, lighter-weight version. Fantastically accurate break barrels both. The HW98 and HW99S are particularly potent as .177cal. hunters. Worth a closer look. The HW90 is GAS-RAM powered rifle and are very effective in all calibres. Two of my mates here have them in .20 and .177 calibre. I really rate this rifle from what I've seen from shooting them. Air Arms Prosport in .177 or .22 is just beautiful throughout. A real crafted masterpiece. I love it for the looks alone. Amazingly accurate shooting engine. Air Arms TX200 rifle is a very similar system to the Prosport and very effective in .22 or .177. Air Arms TX20HC is the carbine version and in .177 this rifle is absolutely deadly. I own both TX200 types and the HC .177 is truly awesome for accuracy. There you go Benjamin. There's a rifle in this lot that will be absolutely perfect for your shooting needs and all of them are on the second user market. Simon Quote Link to post
