Leamo 7
I have worked with and hunted with airrifles for approximately 25 years, and infact can get them from 11 ftp up to 50 plus on something like the carreer. Now I suppose the point I'm trying to make is that how can my nephew of 16 by a weopon like that which will most certainly take a human life used correctly with no proof of land or permission to use it. Yet I asked him to go to my local gun shop and pick me up a decent buck knife with gutting hook and was told no as he couldn't serve a miner with such a thing, wtf kind of society do we live in? Malt 379
You have to be 18 these days to buy an air rifle, I think.. Quote Link to post
The Duncan 802
AFAIK 18 is the minimum age to buy air rifles or knives. 1 Quote Link to post
matt_hooks 188
I'm sure a miner would have no trouble buying a knife, but a minor should not be able to. Or a gun either. Look at the "violent crime reduction bill" for more information. This smells a bit of "anti fishing expedition" to me! Quote Link to post

Leamo 7
Ah right wrong on that then so I'll retract. But baffles me how you can buy them without permission or land or documentation, and you can wind them up easy. Don't get me wrong I love my airrifle almost as much as my rimfires, but to get my fac was a darn sight harder than buying a pcp. My friend bought one the other day knocking out 42ftp! So I turned it down adjusted a few things now he's legal but imagine if he was caught. I can't believe it's not more policed, do I sound an old twat haha! Quote Link to post
matt_hooks 188
I'm glad it's not more policed. Most shooters started with an old, knocked about BSA air sporter or such. It's a cheap(ish) easy way in to the sport. Without the "off ticket" guns far fewer people would go in to the FAC sort of shooting. Regulation serves only to criminalise. If someone wants to get hold of a firearm with criminal intent then they will. The only ones restriction punishes are the law abiding! 1 Quote Link to post
Leamo 7
Hey don't get me wrong guys my first gun was about£150 break barrel .22 hw 85k. I love shooting just think some things are wrong, I mean go on e bay and buy a hunting knife you can't. Yet go on there and buy yourself a compound bow capable of firing a bolt a click easy. Just strange all strange to me. Quote Link to post

Leamo 7
I never said it to get into a pissing contest and only thought that 16 was the age to buy a gun as that's how old I was when I bought mine. And admitidly a knife is easy to conceal yet again a knife won't go threw you at 500 meters! Quote Link to post
matt_hooks 188
No pissing contest here, just an unusual point of view for a shooting man. Quote Link to post

Sjt657 191
I wouldant worry too much my 19 year old step boy got asked for I D for a bottle opener as it had a half inch blade on it ??? The law is the law unfortunately ! But don't moan too much or they will raise the age of buying a air gun to 55 tax it and put vat on it ! Quote Link to post
Leamo 7
I love my shooting I have a fourteen gun cabinet got allsorts, and your right it's an unusual comment from a shooting man. But I went out last night to hit a fox after my neighbours chickens with my 243 when I see a light flashing around. When I got to where they where on my land it was kids with a .22 carreer which sounded one hell of a lot what it should be. I was polite and they left. They bought it the dad turned it up just kids, don't get me wrong everyone starts somewhere but at least check they got land. Quote Link to post
