WILF 47,791
If all these MPs are are so keen to get everyone paying into the tax system, why don't they start on all their own tax free perks first?
forest of dean redneck 11,752
I know im going to sound like a right dry lunch but i dont think its a bad thing fags and beer going up........we,re constantly being bombarded with whats good and whats bad for us so only right the things that are bad for us are made more difficult to get. Its the fuel one that annoys me. I don't smoke but I drink, putting the cost of beer up hasn't stopped me drinking beer, it just means I drink more in the house rather than go to the pub....so all they've done is punished the people who run pubs, hence the reason why more and more are shutting down. It's yet another traditional part of this country gone down the pan! Where ever you go these days you see boarded up pubs, and they're being replaced by crappy brewers fayres etc. that are basically just shit restaurants rather than proper pubs, well sad to see! cant beat a proper pub or social club

Lab 10,979
What happened to the Expenses cheats ? Its about time a March-Demonstration of some sort was Organised down the Smoke to Protest at the Price of Fuel and the Wages-Expenses of MP's. Talk is cheap and thats all Brits ever do. I can remember my Grandad saying pretty much the same thing. "Block the roads he'd say until the change things, bring the country to a standstill". Was speaking to one of the feed delivery drivers about this the other day and he was saying the same but the fear of losing there license they would be scared to block the roads. Malt 379
Fuel is the biggest for me. I'm sure I'm not the only one on here who lives out in the sticks and totally reliant on the car.

I'm sure I'm not the only one on here who lives out in the sticks and totally reliant on the car. I can't work without my car, one side says 'stop spending', the other says 'start spending', as far as I can see the answer is to stop cutting people's ability to provide the essentials. Born Hunter 17,818
Not something that'll effect me too much, I don't drink or smoke. I do use a fair bit of diesel though. Meh.... life goes on, shit times so what do folks expect. Max, putting uni fees up wont stop anyone going to uni other than the dossing chancers that do micky mouse degrees to spend 3-5 years getting shit faced and come out with a shite degree to get a shite job. No matter what background you're from, it's grades that matter. On a cheerier subject, traditional pubs are few and far between but they're worth our support. The only local one I know of is a proper countrymans pub. Nothing like a few of us taking a mooch up to the next village with a couple of spaniels and lurcher in tow for a sociable drink on a Sunday afternoon.
PoshPikey 560
I think this is a good budget in many ways - higher rate before income tax will help, dropping the 50p tax rate will actually retain wealth in the country rather than see so much of it going offshore and will attract big business to stay - don't forget that people who earn meag bucks are spending mega bucks in this country - they pay tax on everything the same as lower wage earners and so are putting more money back into the economy. this is then good for services and manufacturing. Fuel is a bstard but the writing has been on the wall for years that we are going to be paying more for our fuel than the yanks or the saudis simply because they control the pricing. Fags and booze will carry on climbing - i can see my way past 10p a pint extra and if you smoke and pay full price then more fool you. I disagree about University fees being a class divide - i went to uni and I paid for myself all the way through - you have about 6 months of the year in holidays and that is more than enough time to work and pay for your course. no point in whingeing about immigrants - we aren't allowed to cull them so we need to beat them at their own game - if they can find jobs here it just proves how fcking lazy most of our "workforce" is. Dole cheats are a drop in the ocean - if you want to save real money then we ought to get out of Brussells, we ought to cut military funding - we should stop following American troops around like a lost puppy and invest the money back into this country. Its easy to moan about politics but you can't beat death or taxes. i think the budget rewards hard work and IME there is a definite point where you turn a corner in terms of earnings to go from absolutely skint to comfortable - but you ain't goning to cross that line by sitting on your arse making excuses. More coffee required.!

PoshPikey 560
What is the general consensus on Child Benefits? Personally I would scrap them - why should all taxpayers contribute to some of the population to breed? If you can't afford kids then you shouldn't have them. No one pays for me to feed my dogs so why should i pay for other people to feed their offspring?
