pete123 45
Just thought I would share my excitement and ask for a little advice, I recently bought myself a new rifle and was zeroing this in at a range at my local gun shop. Whilst I was there I got talking to a guy who popped in the shop who works full time as pest controll, he kindly offered to take me out soon and we exchanged numbers. I expressed the fact I had no permission of my own yet and have struggled. He said he could maybe give me a little big local to my house. The only thing is I get the impression he has had trouble before giving this great oppurtunities to others. I did make a point that I am no idiot and would respect any shooting oppurtuinty and not be a problem. Is there any other way I can prove this to him to ensure I don't loose this chance? I have just obtained my basc membership and insurance should I give him a copy of these? I'm as soo desperate to maybe finally enjoy my hobby on a weekly basis as opposed to the odd shoot when some one is kind enough to offer me a day out. Quote Link to post

secretagentmole 1,701
Yes copy the insurance documents, so in case there are any problems that come flying at him he knows your backside is covered. Always useful, shows you have cover and think about others! Always looks good! Quote Link to post

secretagentmole 1,701
Best of luck pal, he will probably want to accompany you a few times before you get the go ahead to go on your own and remember, he has invited you, do not invite anyone else on, you are at his invite! Quote Link to post
pete123 45
well i have just had a good few hours on a pigeon shoot at an amazing permission of a deep wooded area. There was ample of them to enjoy too! The guy was great really big on the hunting lifestyle in some ways living my dream nice little cottage with fields/wooded areas as permission on his door step. I also managed to walk away with a dozen eggs and an invite to join him when ever i want. So in short a great success he is also introducing me to someone for my own rabbiting on a few paddocks. its nice to know that there is hope for those of us newbies to get into it! Quote Link to post
MarcFloyd 18
You are lucky mate. I shoot two years now and still have just the same tiny permission I have started with. Good luck mate Quote Link to post

stealthy1 3,964
Flash him your insurance, it does make big difference to some folk, I have a couple of garden centers that I control the rabbbits on, now imagine the look on the owners face when I first asked if he needed his rabbits thining out, the first thing he did before he answered me was to turn and look at all his shiny glass houses but by the time he turned his head back to me, I had my insurance held out, after a big smile and a walk round, hands were shaken, permission was printed, and that was two years ago, so make the effort Quote Link to post

secretagentmole 1,701
Best of luck, just remember do not hurry, do not walk quickly, do not aim quickly, do not fire quickly. You will be full of adrenalin and fizzing worse than a can of shaken coca cola, but try to remain calm! That will help you more than you think! Quote Link to post
pete123 45
I generally sit for a good while, even when one comes in I wait for his mates to join so I can pick the cleaner shot! The trees are quite dense so can be easy for pellet to deflect! The wait is the most enjoyable bit to me! That and seeing the cross hairs steady on the cranium lol! Quote Link to post
