culling the shit ...

Recommended Posts

people may think im mental (well i am a bit but thats a whole other topic)

but if a dog is a failed worker and suitable as a pet why not neuter and rehome?

around here it costs 20euro at vets to pts, it also costs 20euro to neuter with a voucher from dogs trust.

and no i dont own a gun before anyone starts bleeating on.

For me culling pigeon's/chicken's and ferret's is a different ball game to culling a healthy dog..

When i was breeding dogs back years ago id say i culled a lot more than i kept which i believe is one of the main reasons i bred better dogs than most......money comes and go,s why flog dogs on,if its

failed or not it stays on my yard -- would`nt breed from it pass it on or cull it ...i`d take the responsability of owing the dog ..

For what reason though ? Is there a market for pet dogs thats not being filled ?.......Or is putting failed workers into pet homes thereby pushing dogs from the already flooded pet dog market into dog homes and shelters a sensible option ?

They are dogs not children your not going to hurt their feelings.....thats not butch macho talk its just simple common sense.

i dont view dogs as children, and i dont pass dogs onto rescues, quite simply i rehome the dog myself, a lot of failed workers arent suitable as pets and they should be pts

I find this a trickier subject than some do apparently. I think all genetic abnormalities should be culled, but at the same time too many dogs are culled because they have bad owners. A mate I had a few years ago seemed to think he knew it all and had seemed to have culled almost every animal he had in the end. One that sticks in my mind is a patterdale that had gotten loose and killed a sheep so he shot it, what the hell did he expect it to do? Was it the dogs fault he hadn't stock broken it, or kept it securely? Another one is when I got a couple of ferrets from an auction, they weren't exactly shit hot to start out with so he wanted to shoot them (they were vicious little fuckers too). But a few weeks of working with my other ferrets and they turned out to be the 2nd & 3rd best ferrets I have ever worked!

So I would say, cull genetic defects but pass on a 'bad dog' to someone with the time, if they can't get the best out of it then PTS humanely instead of it being passed around forever. I would say pet home, but as mentioned there are already far too many being bred and PTS. The obvious answer would be to breed less, stop breeding from shit because a good line should have mostly good pups imo, with some exceptions.

Plenty of opportunity for the Big Tough Guys on here to flex their imaginary muscles in front of the PC hunters.

Plenty of opportunity for people to nit pick on it as well, since they've nothing better to do.
