blackmaggie 3,376
a farmer has been fined 2500 pound for trapping magpies without the right licence being in place you dont get that for kicking someone senseless or most offences these days just shows how far this country has gone backwards
tegater 789
I had heard about this but with no further info. What are the circs as he can trap to prevent damage to livestock or crops under the general licence. Obviously some part of the licence must not have been in place, was it just that part of the conditions were not met?
PlasticJock 539
What licence??? I know of game licenses and the dozens of related forms that can be filled out for other things, but I wasn't aware that these were enforced
tegater 789
The general licence mate, is the reason that gives you the legal right to shoot or trap any pest species named. Some people dont seem to realise that all birds are protected by law, but thankfully there are exemptions as long as certain criteria are met..........and no I am not an anti. I know you're not I had a look at the Scottish licenses but tbh it's so confusing I don't think even the police know what's what. I'm aware of birds being protected, unless certain conditions are met ie. species, is it for pest control etc. With regards to everything else, there's a licence for this and a licence for that. Children have to ask permission before doing something, that's the way we are being treated courtesy of successive governments who haven't got a clue.
ginga john 268
Without the details its hard to guess but anyone with stock can trap magpies (larsen traps were designed for this) but the call bird has be looked after and the captured birds are destroyed humanely, so may be a welfare issue rather than killing pests ?? tegater 789
I only heard about this because on one of my permissions that I use larsens, the farmer told me about this case and seemed a little windy about the whole thing. I assured him that I work within the law and he is happy with that. I am still interested though as to the circs of this case, as the more knowledge you have, thyexe better prepared you are. The one 8,477
Is that a licence required for a Larson trap or is it just a sticker to put on it saying its legal?.
tegater 789
In England we don't have to put that notice on the traps yet, however I for one think it is quite a good idea, and may prevent some people from f#cking about with them.

Malt 379
http://www.shootingtimes.co.uk/news/532033/Farmer_fined_for_trapping.html That explains it then. I knew an individual can be excluded from acting under the licences in certain circumstances..
