Jonezy 7 Posted March 17, 2012 Report Share Posted March 17, 2012 Hi all, my gill is 9months old, and i wan't to work her as well as keep her as a pet, i had no problems getting my male into it and no i think he is a great worker. She has bolted a few rabbits and even grabbed old of one down the hole, but some times she comes out of the hole and runs away, the problem is she is really fast and last time ended up down a different set of rabbit holes that we hadn't even netted half way across the field, managed to get her back as she had a tracker on. She is really playfull if you go to grab her while she is on the floor the runs away or starts playing with you, Do you think she is just too young to be worked and still in the playfull mood? Or is there any way i can get her working, iv dangled rabbits in front of her(dead ones) and she jumps straigt onto it and rags it like a doll! She also gets to get rabbit almost every day of the week (if we catch enough) So can any one help me please? P.S this is my first season i have worked my ferrets although i have had them over 4 years! Help please! Thanks, Quote Link to post

patterdalejoel 669 Posted March 18, 2012 Report Share Posted March 18, 2012 i have a young jill here that never really showed interest and wanted to play, on warrens i knew had rabbits in, she very nearly got rid of, then suddenly she went straight down one day on a big warren and stuck with a rabbit till it bolted with a very scratched back. i guess it was my inexperience and impatience showing through expecting her to do well right from the off, but she just suddenly matured one day and went from kit to promising worker, it will happen Quote Link to post

We are clearing them on farm land for farmers (as they don't like them and wan't rid of them from there land) We don't go on our notmal place no more, left that to re-stock for next season currently doing paddocks as horses keep falling down the holes and breaking there legs, also on farms the farmers wan't rid of as many as possible, How ever you do not need to tell me this as i allready no...i am not un-expirenced in this, but thanks for the heads up, and what does it have to do with topic? i asked for help not to be told what to do thanks for trying to help in that department though, apprichiated. Yeah i try to put her down first but she still does the same thing, and yeah she is well fed up, i don't like to starv them the night before allthough iv been told i should i haven't had problems before i feed her at 5:00pm usually and we go rabbiting at 7/8am in the morning, i might try not feeding her the night before for a change, thanks for the advice mate (Y) Quote Link to post
