Hello mate,

I did a bit of research on bedding and straw seemed commonly used, but it has its downfalls. While it is cheap and warm, it does harbor ticks, mites, fleas etc. It also gives off a fine dust that can get on the dogs chest, although a lot of people seem to use it without complaint.

Try wax coated paper shreddings, less mess, no mites etc, very warm and it wont stay damp like straw, although dogs shouldn't be put into their kennel wet anyway.

Regards

Blainy

Thanks mate so should I just change it regularly and when putting fresh stuff in just shake it mate?

i used it for years but have now changed to shredded paper, dogs can look a bit shite on it if im honest as said when it breaks down their coats become full of dust, one particular bitch was prone to get the small husks caught in the corner of her eyes causing irritation as well, just what i found that all ;)

I've used straw for many years. It is cheap, warm, dries wet dogs off well, and can be composted down to improve the soil in the veg garden. I just spray it against mites when I first put it down, and change once it has got broken down: also hoover the kennel out when changing bedding and spray before putting fresh straw in. Never had a problem.
