gnasher16 30,597
Has anyone ever done one of these courses ?.....My daughter bought me one for my birthday and all the forms/paperwork came through today....." 12 to 16 year olds must be accompanied by an appropriate adult " Am i likely to be surrounded by a bunch of " The Wanted " fans !!!......or is that likely to just be standard stuff they write on these forms.....Its at Sussex Falconry Centre if any of you folk happen to know of it. jasper65 6
12 to 16 year olds must be accompanied by an appropriate adult " thats you out of the game then mate in that Westham Scarf . spoke to a few people who have been on them and enjoyed the experience hands on picking up a bird and flying it for the first time, I don't know anything about the one you mention above Gnash or many others to be honest. I only get to hear about them if somone has been on a course and picking up a bird afterwards. One lad told me he went on a days course somwhere and spent the first morning with a bit of leather infront on him making Jesses and Anklets, thats all well and good if the lad wants to make his own which I'm sure he would some day, there's enough books with that info and vendors about these days to start him off... think you'll enjoy it mate Quote Link to post
Lee C 55
Hi gnasher the youngster accompanied by an adult is pretty standard. + this means there will be adults there with you. What type of course is it described as? An intro day with hands on is normally the back ground and some bird handling, flying Hunting days, what is say on the tin! Then they get longer and more in-depth for the want to be falconer. Hygiene, cleaning, kit making, health etc. Let us know how you get on and what the course was like. If you enjoy it and it is close to you then you could ask if they take on volunteers at the centre, then see if it is for you after spending some time with it. THFC ! Only club in london. All the best Lee Quote Link to post
gnasher16 30,597
Thanks chaps....apparently you do the 1 day course which then enables you to do the 2 day couse which includes hunting days out....even on the 1 day course it tells you to bring warm, dark outdoor clothing etc so im presuming you must get out and about....It says you get to " interract " with everything from Owls to Falcons,Hawks to Eagles.....what exacty interract will mean im not sure.....from what i can make out you start off with all safety stuff then get straight into handling birds, theres never more than 3 people per falconer and you fly at least 3 different types of birds to the fist etc..probably all sounds a bit basic to some of you experienced folk......but im certainly looking forward to it its always held a bit of a fascination to me so glad im finally going to see what its all about.....I,ll let yous know how it go,s its next Saturday,im even sacrificing an away game at Burnley !!...Whats the world coming to eh Quote Link to post
Lee C 55
We used to have people turn up for hawk walks in high heals or hush puppies! Take suitable clothes boots etc, I'm sure you know the score! Hope it goes well all the best Lee 2-3 and the game of the season probably!! Quote Link to post
