Rake aboot 4,935
Whin ran superb collie crosses for a number of years, and bred a good line, but like so many these days has moved into saluki blood in a big way. I mean ,lets face it, his brother in law has a Hancock dog. Collie lines are very hard to find, Not wishing to offend, but I find too many of the Collie mixes I see on here are too small for me, I like bigger leggier dogs, I looked about and went to Sutton Caulfield. Good luck finding somit Jai. Kittle has a collie mix that has good traits, he has talked about pups, but my advice was to go big. Find a big working dog to put over her, we`ll see how he goes on that one, Edited to add, Bryns lovely. Had the dog up here, and she is a good solid dog, bit short for me but a good stamp. Guest vin
what would type of bitch would you like to mate with Bryn to get your ideal pup ? Bryns a 1st X..so what would be the ideal Bitch ? Quote Link to post
Ideation 8,216
Aye, you are pretty much right Rake. Vin - Bryn is probably the best 1x i have ever seen, but i wouldnt get my ideal pup from any 1x or 3/4 bred. I would rather have lurcher to lurcher with the traits i want in both parents. irishnut 297
theres a farmer near me, he's breeding his own line of 3/4 collies 1/4 greyhound for working sheep and cattle, he has about 10 or 12 fully trained hard working dogs, but in a mad range of sizes, from around 15" up to 23" at the shoulders. he more or less has a dog that speciallises in each of his fields. he has made it his life time hobby to get exactly what he wants. although they are 3/4 border collie 1/4 grey, they are maybe 5th or 6th generation cross. i know for a fact that his dogs have sired pups to greyhounds and lurcher bitches. i've seen only a few of the pups work as they were breed for close mate use. 1 of the best animals i've seen run, 3/4 collie 1/4 grey x 1/8 collie 7/8 grey. 27", out and out deer dog. p.s strangely, 1 of the straight (racing) greys he covered had a litter of rough coated pups. johnny 2 367
Aye, for the record, there is no way in hell i'm getting a pup off hancock. . . . not to offend anyone that has. I will keep waiting and keep searching, and eventually come up with the ideal pup that ticks all of the boxes, it might be this summer, it might be in a couple of years time, but when it comes together it will be worth the wait! I'm sure it will all work out, but its just amazing that the 'original' lurcher, and one that is spoken of so much, and seems so popular, is such a b*****d to find. To be honest i blame hancock - if it wasnt so easy to go and buy a pup from him, there might be more folk who had to put the time and effort in to breed their own . . . . Whats the beef with hancocks dogs? Quote Link to post

Bosun11 537
Point is, that if your looking for Collie based blood and don't want to use a Hancock dog, then Birds dog would be just about the only choice on here and IMO would be THE right choice too! As far as I know Bryn ain't been over a bitch as yet, someone's got to give it a go, got a good feeling about this dog, he just may produce some special things, lets face it he does enough graft! It does make me laugh when it comes to collie blooded dogs... How may members on here now? So many real advocates of 'em and so few genuine dogs....! Quote Link to post

socks 32,253
I tried to breed my bitch this year and used a stunning line bred saluki grey that has a fantastic temperament but again for the second time nothing I think I have to accept the fact that she is barren and will never produce a litter ..... It's a crying shame as she is a decent all round dog .......... Quote Link to post
skycat 6,173
Did you get her blood tested to see if or when she is ovulating? I had a bitch which would stand from day 12 of her season, but never took unless she was mated on day 20! Edited March 16, 2012 by skycat Quote Link to post
