Collie lurcher lines. . . .

Recommended Posts

A very interesting thread this....

A couple of people have mentioned Chipper's line of lurchers. I've a bitch out of Nell to a pointer x lurcher called Dougie and I'm very pleased with her. I've considered a litter out of her at some stage, but I'm worried about the prospects of finding GOOD homes fo the litter. I don't want to generalise but you only have to view a few threads on the THL to realise that finding good homes with SENSIBLE owners is difficult...

Been watching this thread and believe some folk are not only kennel blind but believe a name is everything.....   Every line will start somewhere but where is it now and where is it going???   H

FFS too much brain and the ability to think for itself, is that considered a fault. I thought thats exactly what good lurchers do. Only my opinion of course.     Yours in sport Pernod

the beauty of brin with being a f1 to saluki types or just about anymixed bred type he will have a leveling affect on the litter has a whole . like in all some traits can be come undesireable some believe one only neds a blink of collie in there type , well this would be the animal to use . several seasons under his belt gives ya a true picture ot the animal on the whole robust working brain , just about fits the bill . one can see the likeability in this animal pls he has a decent old school handler who does not blow his horn about the abilitys of the animal .,infact quite the opposite , bets are he will be a producer on decent bitches . atb bunnys.

probably be a good dog in his own right but to say this man doesnt blow his own horn is a joke, this man does nothing but blow his own horn, hes goes overboard with his praise of his own dog, he detracts from his dogs abilities with his constant bragging, any moochers member will tell you the same

dont know what moochers his only found this place over the las yr . matter a fact we only got pc to keep my grandson up to date with his school work .ha ha ha ,atb bunnys.

A lot of the guys that keep collie lines just dont post much about them because they get bored of grief. Get on colliecurs.co.uk and use same user name as here. Ther are some working lines on there and some very good topics on the subject. The dogs are out there and they are working and doing what is required of them.

A couple of people have mentioned Chipper's line of lurchers.

Been out ferreting with chipper once and i was not impressed with a false marking collie grey..i went with my dog who had never been ferreting before and he done better and caught more on his first ever ferreting day.. :D

Ok, if you are after a line-bred collie grey then there are james dogs about, still a few Plummers about, some excelent beardie/grey lines about, I've seen dogs from all these types at work. and there are at least three other border grey lines i know of, going back for years and regularly throwing good stuff. But being bred from an old line doesn't necessarily guarantee a good pup 100% of the time. ive seen some damn good hancocks as well, and most of the poorer ones had poorer owners. if you want to get a pup from the linebred stuff you have to make the effort to find the guys who have them, and show them that yoiu are genuine and that you are knowledgeable enough that you will at least look after the dog and put the work in front of it, and not pass it on at the first hurdle. in short, gain their trust because most of their pups are booked before the bitch has even been mated, mostly to friends and acquaintances. invite them out on your permission so you can see their dogs in action and find out if they are what you want.
