Ideation 8,216
I think it can be generally accepted that collie based lurchers are popular amongst lurcher men, and the folk of THL. I see plenty of dogs up on here on a fairly regular basis, including some that look decent enough. When a friend of mine, was looking to breed his old bitch, it was quite hard work to find a suitable stud, but in the end we found a few decent dogs (unfortunatly the breeding never happened due to the bitches age ). So, there are definatly good collie based runners out there. . . . However, looking at a lot of what is out there, they are either 1st x, 3/4 bred or 5/8 3/8. . . . and a huge number of them came from Hancocks kennels. And although a lot of them look like fine dogs, it's not really for me. So my question is, who here owns, or knows of, a decent line of collie lurchers that are being bred lurcher to lurcher ? What dogs of such breeding are about and doing the biz? 1 Quote Link to post

Ideation 8,216
I will just add that i think i know of one but it's up to those involved if they want to label them dogs 'collie based lurchers'. Quote Link to post
Guest vin
are you fishing for a puppy mate ? I would be very interested what you find from this little posting. I must admit I do like the Collie X types. Quote Link to post

Ideation 8,216
Aye, pretty much mate. To be honest i AM wanting a pup, and one that has a good chunk of collie, but one that has been bred lurcher to lurcher and worker to worker. They are like hens teeth. I know of one line, and a possible future mating that sounds like it would be for me, but i was just fishing about for what else might be out there. Collie type lurchers suit the kind of stuff i do on the kind of land i do it. Quote Link to post

How about letting me borrow her around her season Got to make some kind of plan for the future mate. . . . . and hopefully the not too distant future! Like fecking hens teeth though, such a shame there wasn't four in that litter O yer, on the topic of borrowing live stock - i need your rent boy ferret, all five of my jills are fully in and gagging for it! Gem's litter brothers daughter is due to be lined if the lad can find a suitable stud, she's a 3/4 x 5/8 a nice looking brindle bitch but its dependant on Terry finding the right stud though, so it could never happen. If Gem had came intio season as planned you'd probably have had your pup now, but then again I wouldn't have had Bron if that had happened. Now you can see why Hancock is still as popular as ever, finding collie lurchers isn't so easy. 1 Quote Link to post
s.e.s.k.u 1,893
can totally understand why hancock pups arent for everyone. iv got a 9 month old pup from his puppy farm and im very happy with him but if i could have found a litter of this breeding elsewhere then id have travelled anywhere in uk to get one.BUT i had my heart set on this x and didnt see 1 other litter for sale before or since i got my pup . good luck in finding one . Ideation 8,216
Aye, for the record, there is no way in hell i'm getting a pup off hancock. . . . not to offend anyone that has. I will keep waiting and keep searching, and eventually come up with the ideal pup that ticks all of the boxes, it might be this summer, it might be in a couple of years time, but when it comes together it will be worth the wait! I'm sure it will all work out, but its just amazing that the 'original' lurcher, and one that is spoken of so much, and seems so popular, is such a b*****d to find. To be honest i blame hancock - if it wasnt so easy to go and buy a pup from him, there might be more folk who had to put the time and effort in to breed their own . . . . 1 Quote Link to post
Maximus Ferret 2,063
Take a look on "Colliecurs". Johnnie's a member and you might see a couple of lines you like the look of. Plenty of good working collie crosses there. Quote Link to post
Ideation 8,216
Cheers mate! I guess that not one single person on here owns a collie lurcher that wasnt bred by hancock, that is any good. . . . . Quote Link to post
