Collie lurcher lines. . . .

Recommended Posts

I think it can be generally accepted that collie based lurchers are popular amongst lurcher men, and the folk of THL. I see plenty of dogs up on here on a fairly regular basis, including some that look decent enough. When a friend of mine, was looking to breed his old bitch, it was quite hard work to find a suitable stud, but in the end we found a few decent dogs (unfortunatly the breeding never happened due to the bitches age :cray:).

So, there are definatly good collie based runners out there. . . .

However, looking at a lot of what is out there, they are either 1st x, 3/4 bred or 5/8 3/8. . . . and a huge number of them came from Hancocks kennels. And although a lot of them look like fine dogs, it's not really for me.

So my question is, who here owns, or knows of, a decent line of collie lurchers that are being bred lurcher to lurcher ? What dogs of such breeding are about and doing the biz?

Been watching this thread and believe some folk are not only kennel blind but believe a name is everything.....   Every line will start somewhere but where is it now and where is it going???   H

FFS too much brain and the ability to think for itself, is that considered a fault. I thought thats exactly what good lurchers do. Only my opinion of course.     Yours in sport Pernod

well to know that for shure you would have had to have seen them all work,,,have you seen don work??? no course not..   now i have seen some others work i know a very deacent david james bred anima

Aye, pretty much mate. To be honest i AM wanting a pup, and one that has a good chunk of collie, but one that has been bred lurcher to lurcher and worker to worker. They are like hens teeth. I know of one line, and a possible future mating that sounds like it would be for me, but i was just fishing about for what else might be out there.

Collie type lurchers suit the kind of stuff i do on the kind of land i do it.

I've got 2 here if you ask nicely I'll let you borrow the old girl again. :tongue2:

 How about letting me borrow her around her season :whistling:

Got to make some kind of plan for the future mate. . . . . and hopefully the not too distant future!

Like fecking hens teeth though, such a shame there wasn't four in that litter :tongue2:

O yer, on the topic of borrowing live stock - i need your rent boy ferret, all five of my jills are fully in and gagging for it!

Gem's litter brothers daughter is due to be lined if the lad can find a suitable stud, she's a 3/4 x 5/8 a nice looking brindle bitch but its dependant on Terry finding the right stud though, so it could never happen.

If Gem had came intio season as planned you'd probably have had your pup now, but then again I wouldn't have had Bron if that had happened.

Now you can see why Hancock is still as popular as ever, finding collie lurchers isn't so easy.

can totally understand why hancock pups arent for everyone. iv got a 9 month old pup from his puppy farm and im very happy with him but if i could have found a litter of this breeding elsewhere then id have travelled anywhere in uk to get one.BUT i had my heart set on this x and didnt see 1 other litter for sale before or since i got my pup . good luck in finding one .

Aye, for the record, there is no way in hell i'm getting a pup off hancock. . . . not to offend anyone that has.

I will keep waiting and keep searching, and eventually come up with the ideal pup that ticks all of the boxes, it might be this summer, it might be in a couple of years time, but when it comes together it will be worth the wait!

I'm sure it will all work out, but its just amazing that the 'original' lurcher, and one that is spoken of so much, and seems so popular, is such a b*****d to find. To be honest i blame hancock - if it wasnt so easy to go and buy a pup from him, there might be more folk who had to put the time and effort in to breed their own . . . .
