Rake aboot 4,935
yeh but they do need cleaned out. Last one I got done was due to an abcess on a tooth, vet cut it, and flushed it out, antibiotic jab, and job done. Maybe the vet needs to brush up a bit on small animals. Quote Link to post

skycat 6,173
Years ago, when I kept rabbits and then goats, lancing and cleaning an abscess was standard practice. Three times, I've encountered massive abscesses in dogs as well: the first time it was a vet job: removed tissue, stitched and drains in: abscess came back. Next two times, lanced and cleaned them out myself and allowed to drain and heal naturally: never came back, and at no time were any of these abscesses full of blood. Sometimes people, including vets, rely too much on antibiotics. If the source of infection is still there, no matter how many antibiotics are given, the problem will reoccur, but of course it depends on the original cause of the abscess. If it is due to infection then antibiotics may work, but if it is due to a foreign body, even the tiniest thing invisible to the naked eye, it will keep coming back until the foreign body has been expelled or removed. Just my experience with these things. Quote Link to post
