My whippet cut herself on some wire about a week ago, I glued it and it has almost healed all except a half inch tear, she keeps licking it and if I glue it she licks it open. Can I get an antiseptic powder to go on there that will dry it up, help it heal and hopefully stop her licking it.

I have used blue spray as I do on any minor cuts but she has got a taste for that and licks that off, dont really want to put a cone collar on her as it is a nightmare for them eating and drinking.

Any constructive advice would be good

Thanks

John, if its clean, and no hotter than normal to the touch and she is licking it mate, leave it open, its probably irritating her as it heals as do cuts on humans , they itch like mad, bathe in salt water coulpe of times a day if you want to, but sh'ell only lick that off, but it wont do any harm to give it a flush with warm salty water, but put your hand on it daily to see if it starts to get hotter, that may indicate an infection starting , although if the rest is healing and she doesn't start scratching at it which could result in her opening up the original wound mate, i'd let it alone. Just keep an eye on it.

Some dogs will worry a wound and make it worse, I‘ve a bitch than can turn a wire graze into an open wound in a day. With her I cover wounds and as most are on the front, ie chest or forelegs I use an old long sleeved t shirt. Over the head and front legs in the sleeves so it covers most of their front end. Tie the excess material from the waist of the shirt over the back so they don’t get their rear legs entangled, bit like a girl knotting a shirt to show off a little more skin/flat belly. They can still move piss etc but the wounds heal more quickly without her less than helpful ministrations.
