PoCk0 40
Here's a few pictures from ferreting on saturday at some new permission we got. Last weekend we got 25 in just an afternoon and this week we got 20 in an afternoon. Last year the rabbits ate off a whole 20 acre field of wheat, so theres a massive problem. Luckily we haven't caught any young rabbits yet, although we have caught several 3/4 grown ones, but these are probably down to the very mild winter we've had. Most of the rabbits were netted although the dogs did catch a few which slipped the net. Think we're going to keep going until the little bunnies appear, but that'll probably only be a week or so. As you can see from the photos, there is a huge amount of crop damage. 2 Quote Link to post

Guest cookiemonsterandmerlin
Mega damage there 30 grands worth in crop yield as rough guide thats years of rabbit control neglect some numbers to catch well done ATB Cookie that is a rough guide where did 30k come from on 20 acre This a very rough guide and was not based on the whole 20 acres being totally uncropped . But wheat yields roughly 2 to 3 tonnes a acre so you can have 40 to 60 tonnes of 20 acres . And yes 30 k was well short on currant prices and I was a little out ok alot out as I didnt know wheat prices have gone so high but a average £150 to some getting £200 a tonnes I based my 30 k on £78 a tonne .so worst case if the crop totally fails a £120k worth of crop has gone. The one 8,481
Aye even then your a bit light after you allow for new seed and fuel etc . Knowing the costs can help getting new permission as chatting to the farmers other than do you want your rabbits done ?. Is always helpful Quote Link to post
nod 285
even if they were getting 150 a tonne multiply that by ton still is only 12k Quote Link to post
