Some people want dogs for a certain type of quarry and thats the only quarry they will hunt.

If the dog dont hunt the quarry the guy hunts, do you want the lad to keep 5 dogs in his runs that wont do a job?

just a thought not everyone is the same and has working dogs for the same work

well anyone who had half a brain cell would get the right dog for the job ; or get a good allrounder that will do abit of everthing ,afer all who wants a one trick pony?

Yeah do you think every dog will do the job, your dreaming pal.

As said alot of lads only hunt certain quarry and is a one trick pony if they cant do the trick then they are no good.

Im not saying its right to pass dog on but what you want the lads todo?

If someone wants the dog for something else and knows the faults with the dog before taking it on.

I dont see what the problem is, but when peddlers pass dogs on for money from person to person its wrong!

perhaps that is more to do with the guy on the back of the lead ,and not the dog in front of it , .but yes should it be legal for example to take deer ,or say hare you would get a dog bred for thee job ,the rest is alot to do with how its entered .fittness food ect , whatever you do ,you need to put time into it , ;)

i think alot are to lazy to put the time in or have the patience to enter a pup correctly then blame the dog for there shortcoming they see what they think his a better dog for sale so pass theres on i dont think they have enough upstairs to realise only on a very rare occasion will you get a good dog for sale as no one is going to put all that time and effort in just to sell it on and ive found its always the same people buying and selling dogs regular good luck with the baby redpat

do you honestly think every dog will do a job with fittness, food, breeding and entered proberly?

You dont see many collie or whippet type older dogs up for sale, people have the dogs and are usual happy with them normal ferreting and mooching around.

You usual see bull x and saluki x types up for sale because there purpose breed type of dogs that cant do there job.

Peddlers lie and sell them on for £££££££££££££££

I passed on my 1st lurcher a couple of weeks ago. The main reasons were the loss of my permission and that my wife had been ill during pregnancy, we were both having a really rough time and after a lot of thought I let her go coming up for her 1st birthday to a great guy off of this site.

I will tell you now I will never do it again, after all the work I put in settling her down with the family and hours spent trying to get a bond with her I let the dog down. Its been a few weeks but not an hour goes by when I wish I could turn back the clock. yes, I am still stressed and having a hard time but who isnt at the moment? I made a decision that I have to live with for the time being, I know she is with a top fella having a good life and being bought on to do what she was born for and I am sure she will be an excellent pot filler.

So you are right riohog, to many excuses and not enough grit and determination to see things through. I have learnt my lesson the hard way and will try and remeber how I feel at the moment so as not to forget what commitment and hard work means in the future as I am sure life will settle down again soon when the baby is born (any time now) and my wife gets her health back. I will have to start again from scratch with a lurcher and terriers if that is the route I follow and want to continue being involved with hunting, but no more excuses, I will build some proper kennels and make my decisions knowing that it is a lifetime of work and commitment through the rough and smooth times.

what i an saying is and yes you are correct you dont see to many older dogs for sale its the younger ones yes so the novalty wore off ,, and the time wasnt put into the dog at 12 month old or so its just begining to lern the job by 3 years od it should be preety good at it ,so its all about putting in the time knowing when to hold back and when to let go entering correctly on toothed stuff when it was legal and so on ..and btw i got a collie cross bitch here now shes 15 years old so i have a fair adea what its about ;) and also the 2 young dogs i have ..

I have been in to hunting for over forty years , and certain lads have always chopped and changed their dogs on what seems an annual basis. Some people are never happy with their dogs and always want bigger better faster, not unlike car drivers. Of all the people who got married in 1995 one third divorced by the year 2010, if people can not hold onto their spouse what chance as a dog got .

Thanks mate, appreciated. My wife is now ok-ish and the baby should all be ok when born according to the docs. Still doesnt make me feel any better about the dog though. Like I have said there are plenty of people out there with their own problems, its time to put it behind me and plan for the future in a more responsible way and to learn from my mistakes so as not to repeat them again.

Cheers

Got my first running dog when I was 13; I'm 60 now, and allways had working dogs. When I was young, I got a well bred terrier, but found that digging wasn't for me, so swapped her for a Lurcher. The only other dog I got rid of was a well seasoned Lurcher bitch, that I swapped for a Deer/Grey pup ...... big mistake ! Even when I went abroad to live, I had dogs, and spent a load of money bringing one back to the UK with me when I retired. Dogs are with me for life, now, and I learned early on that the grass wasn't allways greener on the other side !! LOL !! It's there to see that some people have more dogs in 4 year than I've had in 40, but are they bettering the dogs they have in their kennels ?? Who knows ?

Cheers.

I've bought alot of dogs over the years. Never sold one cuz I never could find its replacement but then I bought a dog off of a good friend and it was damn sure worth it.

Oh ya and I also bought the best dog I will ever own off a fella who was a damn good friend at the time. We dont talk no more but I aint sure why.

the way i see it, is they are working dogs 1st, pets 2nd. Now if the dog dont do what you want it to, as a working dog why keep it .? It was bought as working dog to do the job it was bred for, no hunting dog is perfect, they all have faults, but why settle for 2nd best .? so you have to be honest with your self, with what you are feeding .!
