JohnGalway 1,043
Suspicious green looking leafy things are emerging from where I planted me spuds
JohnGalway 1,043
I earthed up my early spuds today, probably late as some of the foliage was 5 inches above ground (learner hoe driver here, gimme break ). Am a bit concerned at the amount of wireworm I found. Considering I popped every last little bugger I found when I double dug that patch. I've ordered some little ninja wireworm and slug killers, a sort of green biological warfare Nemaslug and Supernemos.
JohnGalway 1,043
Hi folks, My early spud leaves seem to be taking on some odd colour. You can see what I mean from the photos below, the yellowing is actually a bit worse in person than in the photos. Few questions: What is it? What causes it? Is it any harm? Can I "cure" it? I have made a mistake I know about, I earthed up too early and too much. Took off some soil after a couple of days after I realised my error. Probably many more mistakes to make too! jasper65 6
Any thoughts on this then? Just been looking at the picture John and the wife reckons it looks like the frost has got to them? she's probably wrong as usual but might be worth thinking about ..
Guest thebigdog
to much nitrogen in the soil perhaps john.
JohnGalway 1,043
Think the consensus, not that there was much of it lol, was the first lot of problem pics were due to frost/chill wind damage or magnesium defiency, was told the damage would sort itself and to do nothing, and that epsom salts would sort mag def, so I done nothing and used epsom salts lol. The second pic with the broken stems and wilted leaves was from a ewe trampling them I think.
JohnGalway 1,043
to much nitrogen in the soil perhaps john. Not sure TBD, I put in really well rotted sheep shed dung in the beginning. Since then they've recently got two feeds of tomato feed, and just put on the second Dithane spray against blight tonight, as well as the epsom salts, they got nothing else.
