RubyTex 1,957
Am i right in thinking a bit of vaseline and a bandage for a few days then rest for 2/3 weeks will sort this problem out? Pup went out for her first ever retrieve, brought it back and her pad was split and dripping blood. Brill!!!

skycat 6,173
rubytex: sounds about right to me. I don't like gluing pad wounds as you never know if you might seal in some dirt/bacteria. No matter what you do the edges of the wound will go a bit crispy and hard. Keep soft and healthy with something like Padsanol, though Vaseline might do it as well. And let dog lick it as much as it wants. Keep clean.
RubyTex 1,957
Cheers for the replies guys, when i got in i raided my mums medicine drawer for saline solution and washed it out, put some pressure on with a clean bandage then applied the vaseline and a bandage overnight. Changed it this morning and the bleeding has stopped and it's already going crispy as you explained skycat. Let it get some air then vaselined and taped a sock on to keep it clean whenever she goes outside. Going to keep up with the saline and using up my old socks. Thanks for the advice. skycat 6,173
Don't keep washing it with salt water: you'll make it go even more crispy, and that means it won't heal as well. Let the dog lick it: dog saliva contains enzymes which kill bacteria cells and helps prevent infection. And dab a bit of vaseline on it when the dog isn't likely to lick it straight off: like last thing at night.
RubyTex 1,957
Alright no problem. She's not touched it once so it can't be itching just yet but she's gone to bed with a vaseline cover on it. Thanks.
