tikka t3 varmint 22-250 HOW MUCH TO CHOP

Recommended Posts

HI ALL THINKING ABOUT SHORTNING THE BARREL ON MY T3 , AS THE T8 DOES AGOOD JOB SOUND WISE BUT EFFECTS THE GUNS HANDLING AND MAKES IT TO LONG FOR MY LIKING. LIVED WITH THIS FOR A YEAR NOW,BUT THINK TIME HAS COME FOR THE CHOP.WOULD LIKE TO GO DOWN 3 1/2 INCHES FROM 22 TO 18 1/2 :hmm::yes:. ADVICE AND EXPERIENCES MUCH APPRECIATED.

DONT DO IT!!!!!!

YOU CHOP A 22-250 DOWN TO THAT LENGTH, AND YOU WILL END UP WITH A GUN THAT PERFORMS NO BETTER THAN A .223.

you will lose a lot more than 200 fps.22-250,s work at their best with a 26" barrel, so you are gonna be down on power to start with, dont take anymore off.The calibre is massivley "overbored" which means its a huge amount of powder, trying to burn, in a tiny thin bore, you let that bullet out early [short barrel] and half your charge will be burning outside the barrel.

:):D thanks for the replys all .BALDIE is there any smaller mods on the market that would help to improve the situation ; balance, length and overall handling. i dont really want to go back to using the gun without the mod for foxing ,because of livestock and houses near my permission and un sociable hours etc .

:D THANKS baldie . that looks a neat little moderator, looks like it mite be stainless to. mite have to get a closer look at one of those.by the way told you wrong about the barrel length of the t3 its 23 and 3/8 inches long not 22 inches.it also has a 1in 14 twist which is a shame because it wont entertain any bullet over 50 gr's . mind you owd charlie dont complain much. :D

1in 14" is the industry standard buddy, but most will shoot a 55 grain bullet. The little s5 is indeed stainless, but bead blasted, so it is dull, its an excellent hunting mod.
