Blainy88 25
Does anybody feed their dogs white rice? If so, how does it compare to 'complete' dog biscuits? Also, would brown rice be more benficial than white rice? Regards Blainy
1Wally 204
I know people who feed a bit of rice with their other food mate but its just a carb, not to be compared with complete foods. Complete is what it says, should have all the dog needs.
leegreen 2,173
I would think brown rice is better. Why don't you use a little biscuit? I assume this is to compliment a meat and bone diet.
Blainy88 25
I was thinking of feeding them the rice with raw chicken wings, but would I be able to use it mixed in with the complete biscuits? Or would that be pointless?
Blainy88 25
Or how about veg and rice?
1Wally 204
Like you say mate mixing with complete food is a bit pointless and would mean they got less protein as they couldnt eat as much of the biscuits, those who feed it are usually complimenting a meat and bone diet, often with veg too. 1Wally 204
Just for the record mate, i feed mine minced whole chicken carcass as i can get a supply easy and i only add a bit of veg, but not with every feed. Its only recently iv been able to get hold of this so easily though and my bitch was doing fine on a complete food before that.
Blainy88 25
The dogs seem to enjoy there complete food (Wagg Chicken) but I've read up about the benefits of a raw feed diet, finding a local supplier who will sell cheap enough without buying in bulk has proved difficult though. I've been feeding them the complete mix, with carrots, peppers and mushroom mixed in, and buying the Asda's own chicken for £1.95 (10 frozen peices, legs wings etc.) and defrosting them and giving them as treats. but with three dogs on the go its gone in no time! sandymere 8,263
Rice is a good form of carbs if feeding with meat and veg. Brown would be better than white in the longer term as it will have more fibre which helps with creating a healthier lower gut. If feeding a complete as a base with meat on the odd day then it would still be fine on those days although adding meat to a little complete a couple of times a week would also be fine. I personally wouldn't feed rice every day, oats or biscuits would be a better mixer. Maybe better to keep the white rice in case the dog gets a bout of gastroenteritis as rice and chicken are the standard treatment to settle a stomach.
kanigra 110
Don't no how true it is but was told buy a good greyhound trainner not to add complete buiscuit to meat diets. To feed say buiscut in the morning on its own then meat, veg, rice pasta etc in the evening on its own.Because of the cereal content in the buscuit it passes through the gut quicker therefore they are not get the best nutrition from the meat, veg, pasta & rice mixture by mixing the two together. I have tryed seperatly & they c**p less & seem to hold there weight better so maybe some truth in it.
