Where to get net making equipment????

Recommended Posts

Hi there! Im 15 and have been ferreting with the last year and a half and have previously bought all my nets off a well known character who lately was in a terrible accident whilst out with his ferrets which resulted in his death. Ive decided to start making my own nets as i had great interest in his talent of net-making but never got round to asking him where he sourced his net making equipment. Id really appreciate if anyone could tell me where i could buy the twines, rings, needles etc? I know i can buy them off bridport nets but the postage is massive. Is there anywhere in Ireland? Thanks :)

Definatly worth making your own nets.. once you figure out how to do it (took me a few days mind..) you can do it while you sit and watch TV.. also fairly satisfying when a net you made purses up the rabbit..

Agouti nets is probably your best bet, £17 i believe for the full set i think you can make around 15 normal sized nets from a spool.. theres lots of different colours and also tutorials on their site.

good luck!

There is nothing more stratifying when you net a rabbit in your own made net.

All the best bud stick at it.

Agreed Agouti would be your best route mate, Ive also been hunting around a year and a half and decided to start making nets just before xmas, have made 10 so far and after you get the hand of it which takes a few days im sure you will really enjoy making them and nothing better when a rabbit purses in your 1st hand made net!!

I'm in Ireland as well Steven, I couldn't find any suppliers over here at all. I emailed Agouti twice to try and get postage costs but received no reply from them, perhaps they don't deliver over here at all but it would be nice to get a reply.

In the end I ordered twine, rings, braid and a needle from Bridport nets and had it delivered to a relative in the UK and I picked it all up on my last visit.

Sorry to be of no help in finding net materials over here, if you know someone who travels over to the UK perhaps you could get them to bring some stuff back for you. I'm not going myself anytime soon otherwise I may have been able to help you out.
