Michael5 2
hey I was just wondering when is the best time to look for rabbits , I have been looking for a while now and I can't seem to find any around my shoot , I was just wondering if the fields I shoot in are not the type or habitat for a rabbit and I was wondering what kind of conditions they are mostly found in Thanks , Michael Quote Link to post
wedge2409 98
Hi Michael,on one of my permissions the rabbits prefer the evenings,on another they must come out at night as i have been at different times of the day and not seen any ,come morning there's fresh diggings.but on this permission they have a gardener who lets his dog wander all day .Is your permission liable to disturbance i.e public footpaths if so try early mornings one day ,evenings the next.with the warmer months approaching rabbits tend to be out all day lazing in the sun.. Michael5 2
hey wedge , my permission have no public disturbances , it is a chain of 5 fields out in the country , there is not much wooded areas around it and I have read that rabbits like these kind of conditions , I have went for a lot of walks lately in hope of finding some signs that they are about like foot prints , droppings etc , but all I came across was a badger sett with and alot of badger footprints , maybe I will have to wait for the warmer months Thanks, Michael Quote Link to post

Michael5 2
We're abouts are the warrens usually found ? Along the hedgerows ? Quote Link to post
slugger8770 0
Hi Michael5, On my perm there are alot of hawthorn/blackthorn hedgerows with about 3 metres of brambles either side, this gives the rabbits the perfect place to have their warrens. During the summer their burrows are practically impossible to get to and see, so you have to wait until the rabbits decide to come out, dawn and dusk usually. I would have thought that if there are rabbits around then you will see signs of them i.e. scrapings, droppings, grass nibbled short or snagged fur. Good Luck in your search mate. Quote Link to post
77 si 21
We're abouts are the warrens usually found ? Along the hedgerows ? hello mate Quite often they are found in the hedge rows, wooded areas or embankments or even just big piles of earth. I have even got them trying to dig under the barns and into the canal bank on one of my permissions . Well worth exploring every where can be very useful having a good knowledge of your permission especially when you are planning your route around so you can find the best way to stalk up onto your hotspots. Joejoe 1
Im harderly a master with my air rifle and iv only got about 5 bunnies with mine but you want to go when the rabbits feed. I find its in the early morning when the sun is just coming up or just as it starts going down. This site might help with finding them and how to shoot em, good luck http://www.how-to-hunt-rabbit.com/finding-rabbits.html 1 Quote Link to post
Michael5 2
hi slugger That's exactly the same as the hedgerows on my perm , there is about 2 or 3 metres of brambles on each side so maybe that's we're there hiding . Thanks Michael Quote Link to post
