What is the bas ultra multi like as a hunting rifle

They are supposed to be a good rifle. I have not used one personally but there are a few lads on here that swear by them.

I must admit i am in a similar situation, i fancy a multi-shot ultra for a bit of ratting (inside a barn packed with rubbish) i was thinking it would shoulder quickly. i have an AA 410K but i don't know the difference in length. Not of much help Scott but just to let you know you aren't on your own mate.

In short, brilliant.

 

I love mine. In the last week it has had 11 rabbits and a couple of squizzers. It had 13 squirrels the previous week.

 

Thoroughly recommend one. Nice and lightweight, short enough to manouvre in the car and deadly accurate.

 

Some people complain about the MMC cocking system but I have had no issue with it and it does allow you to de-cock the rifle should you wish.

I've got the ultra .22 about 40 shots at full power before dropping off,I find the shot count not be a problem when out hunting,a very accurate rifle,taking bunnys up to 62yrds aimed head shots,change the factory silencer (its crap) to a Weihrauch and it will be wisper quiet,a very light pcp,pellet on pellet grouping depending on your ability,I picked mine up for £200 second hand.

Great gun, great grouping, just the cocking system is a pain on a bipod. The cocking system is either something you can get on with or despise, I am firmly in the despise camp. I had a single shot for a couple of weeks, I took plenty of rabbits with it, I just could not get on with the MMC so it was sold back to the gun shop. But it was pellet on pellet and a nice gun, just in my mind a lousy cocking system.

 

I just do not like the cocking system, to run over the reloading and cocking system, press side switch down, bolt shoots back, this will rotate the magazine and load the next pellet, press probe back in, next is cycle the MMC with the front plunger, then take aim and fire. Compare that to a Super 10, bolt back, bolt forward, R10 or Scorpion bolt back, bolt forward, Daystate Huntsman or X2, bolt back, bolt forward, Hatsan AT44 or HW 100, pull sidelever back, push sidelever forward. All of these the back motion pulls the bolt back and rotates the magazine, then pushing the bolt forward loads the gun and cocks it!

My sentiments exactly Secretagentmole. Nice light gun with accurate grouping but can't be doing with the cocking system. It's to fiddly and there's to much to think about especially in the heat of the moment.

Cracking rifle for the money, bought mine brand new last October primarily as a ratting gun (have fac for rabbit) but have bagged pleny of rabbits too. I find the cocking system a piece of piss to use and the new bsa mags are excellent. I mount my ns200 nv kit on the ultra which being short and lightweight is the ideal platform for nightvision imo.

Since the pic below was taken i have fitted a cctv camera battery which does away with the trailing wire..

If I ever deside to get rid of my rifles, the Ultra would be the last one to go, outstanding rifle.

When BSA bring out sidelever or bolt action, they will make a killing.

Will it happen I wonder ?

For me the Ultra is my favourite light weight hunting rifle by far. I've actually owned 3 now thats how good I rate them.

 

If I'm honest I rate LJs Ultra more than my HW100.

 

Why?

 

Well it easily matches my HW100 for accuracy, its lighter, its shorter and so is better for a array of my shooting requirements, its £400 cheaper and its almost as quiet with a HW silencer fitted as the HW is with a Twink.

 

Where the HW is better is in the shot count and magazine system.

 

This is just my opinion though and don't get me wrong the HW100 is awesome. Mine as proved to be a very capable and hunting tool.

 

At the end of the day it doesnt really matter which gun you use as long as long as the bloke behind the trigger knows his part.

 

The Nite Site on the Ultra looks brilliant buddy and i bet its deadly on rats.

 

From what i saw of the NS200 its a more than capable unit and one I'm contemplating for myself to fit on a new dedicated ratting rifle next year.
