u didnt do anything all u have to do on this site is write on it an it starts

Flash,

it is a pity that more and more people are having to resort to 'pming' on this site rather than give their opinion openly in case they get abuse or negative comments. However

I have found this site useful in terms of getting both constructive and other more negative criticism of our events. Both have led us to bringing the terrier, lurcher & whippet events at our shows up to similar standards to our shooting & gundog events as well as giving them a similar profile. As with anything we do we constantly try to innovate and improve all facets of the events and negative comments don't deter us.

I have met and spoken to many sensible people from the forum and we are pleased from their advice and comments , plus of course the record attendances

at our three shows in 2011, that most terrier & lurcher enthusiasts feel we are moving in the right direction.

We don't have all the answers and we recognise that others have the right to express other opinions - in fact I have rather enjoyed meeting some of our harshest critics from the forum face to face. I happen to think you can have a robust discussion on any topic without resorting to abuse and I don't bear grudges.

Final touches being put to our three events AND I will be posting this soon.

How many faces have you Albert

DB,

Are you slightly paranoid ? Unlike some people, possibly including you, I only come on this forum under my own name because I genuinely wish to get constructive feedback on how we can improve our events. I have neither the time or inclination to come on and put views up under aliases.

Am still not clear on this Albert how can you have the split help me out to understand why rough smooth and terrier cross Lurchers get split in racing most Lurchers nowadays have terrier in them what happens there

DBs,

The reason why we have split the lurchers into three classes , AS A TRIAL, for our new Novice competition was quite simple as a number of lurcher owners contacted me to say that the racing was being dominated by a number of elite 'long dogs' and that their 'working dogs' did not have a chance against these dogs. To give more people a chance we decided to bring in a novice class - very common in all sports , and our events at the fairs. This is open to Novice dogs only - dogs that have not won a race. My colleague Philip Lawton who had initially suggested the Novice race said he would sponsor it at Shanes Castle as part of the All Ireland Championships and I volunteered €300 of his money as the top prize. And I said I would supply the supporting prizes.

Then we received many useful suggestions that to make the final truly representative of ALL of the lurcher owners /types of lurcher we should run it over 150 yards and we should split the qualifying heats by different types. After much discussion with working lurcher owners we decided to try the three classifications that I have indicated at Ballywalter and if they work do similar at Shanes Castle. Two dogs from each classification will race in a 6 dog final.

Now you have described the difference between rough and smooth as only being the hair but my challenge to you is to say when you last saw a rough coated lurcher win one of the top races? Equally when did you last see a terrier cross lurcher win one of the top races? Our Novice event should be a chance for ALL lurcher owners to race their dogs initially against dogs of their own type and then try them in the final against dogs of other types. It should be a good test of breeding, training, conditioning and type and be a very interesting public display of the various types of lurchers. I am looking forward to it. All we ask from people when we innovate is that they give it a try. We are always willing to listen to criticism and ideas and if necessary innovate again.

Now we have had a robust discussion on this and I have done you the courtesy of giving you a detailed reply - I would invite you to come to Ballywalter to see the new Novice racing we are putting on and THEN give me your considered opinion.
