.22 lr - choices

Recommended Posts

Hi folks,

Im trading up my cz semi auto .22 for a bolt action. I was dead set on a Weihrauch HW60J to match my hmr, but I can't seem to be able to find one with a 16" barrel.

Looking around, I was quite taken with the Browning T-bolt. Does anyone have much experience with these? How does it stack up against the HW for quality, build, trigger etc?

Many thanks :)

I do indeed Paulus

Personally, I find them a very good all round rifle. The build quality is what you'd expect from Browning, solid action, well blued barrel and a decent wood stock.

I have the 16" carbine version which is about right for a .22LR but that obviously extends with a moderator.

The T-Bolt action is fast compared to a normal bolt as you only need to pull straight back and forth, no need to lift the bolt.

The magazine holds 10 with a good positive feed. Haven't had a jam yet that wasn't my fault.

One thing I particularly like about it is the weight, its a light rifle which is what I prefer in a rimfire.

As for accuracy, I'm not a great shot but I can put groups under the inch mark at 75/80 yards. I'm sure a more competent gun could much improve on that.

Thanks SS, I'll get to a shop and have a play. They are about £100 cheaper than the HW too.

Cheers

If you were closer then you'd be welcome to try mine.

I have a CZ452 in comparison which is a heavier rifle with a heavier barrel but I almost always prefer to pick up the Browning because its a light rifle which I can carry around.

What ever you end up gettin, get you some Aquila subsonic 38gr HP. I shoot them in my trick 10/22 and have never found a round as consistent in every gun I 've ever shot them in. I've spent big $ on 22 shells playing around to see what kinda groups I can get and no matter what I spend per box, nothing topped the Aquila. You oughta try some.
