I've got two of his books, not knocking the man but I prefer more informative books with detail on lurchers and different crosses, quarry, hunting methods, training tips, conditioning etc. I don't really enjoy tall tales and such, each to their own I suppose. I just feel his books lack a little detail

That's a bit disingenuous Skycat gets a raw deal from the guys in here cause she's a woman...she's been in the game a long time and has probably done more than most of the lads on here.

Who's talking about skycat?

Can't be arsed going back through the comments tosee who said what...she was mentioned in a throw away remark by someone along the lines of if you want to know what;s wrong with your dog ask Penny...regards hunting ask JD. My point was that she has been in the game as long as a lot of folk in here ..probably longer and shouldn't be dismissed as easily as that...nothing more nothing less. :)

Absolute c.unts they are, money grabbing bastrds, just out to make money from robbing old ladies.

Skycat is one very helpful lady, she deserves the compliment, took a few minutes out of her day to explain some stuff in a simple and easy to understand way, my dog has come on loads since I put him o

That's very kind of you to champion my cause: undisputed. However, I took the remark as a compliment rather than an insult. But I see where you are coming from as nearly all the knowledge I've gained

And yes, I always tell people to see a bone man or vet as well. It's impossible to diagnose anything on the internet, but sometimes a little advice doesn't go amiss, especially when it comes to the right kind of food, conditioning or basic care or basic training, and also suggesting what type of bone man, muscle man or vet to see. There's a lot of people on here who know far more than they ever let on, just as there's a lot of people who know nothing at all. We all had to start somewhere, and it makes sense to share knowledge just so long as it is accurate.

My comment was ment as a compliment skycat. And the point I was getting at is there are different books for different topics. If you want to read about hunting wild boar, then you wouldn't buy chalk warrens book about rabbit hunting.

A very genuine helpful lady.

My bad mate no offence meant!

On the subject of Plummer, has anyone ever heard of any controversy with The Fell Terrier book? Like it was someone elses work that he stole lock stock and barrel, photos and all?

Mate it's the Rogues & Running Dogs book, Jimmy 'long hair' Keeling wrote that book and had sent Plummer the draught as he'd already had success with his Modern Ferreting book, Plummer nicked it lock stock and added a chapter or two and then, by way of remorse, added Jimmy a few times in its pages! All of the older Liverpool dogmen knew of the book Jimmy wrote and that Plummer stole it. GTE knows about it well.

I know , and thank you. Though I may dare venture into JD's territory one day and spill the beans on some of my exploits :D Some memories really should be shared :victory:

And for the record, whilst I find it hard to understand why there are very limited editions of these books, no one has ever, or will ever, in my opinion, bring out books like The Hare and the Swift hound, or Of Dogs and Deer again. For me, they are a tribute to two of the most fascinating and challenging types of game that have been hunted with dogs in this country. And of course, the photos say it all. :notworthy: I would have been immensely proud to have brought out such works of art, the marketing issues not withstanding.

That one as well!?

Old Plummer seems to have been a bit of a thief then!

It was definitely a terrier book mate, although it sounds like he did it to more than one person now.
