masmiffy 82
Could just be that the gun doesn't like the 17gr bullets. From what I hear they're all made in the same factory. I did phone Hornaday regarding the 'debate' on different colour plastic tips giving different 'zeros' and results. They said it makes no difference to the ammo performance. It also seems that most 17HMR rounds are indeed made in the CCI factory Quote Link to post

dogdown 1
i used some jacketed hollow point 17g last night and they were fine, its just ballistic tips it doesnt like from what i can tell.I must admit it could do with a clean as i have put around 200 rounds through without cleaning it. I will give it a good clean then try the ballistics again. If its still shite i wont bother with them! Cheers for the info Quote Link to post

Cheers for the info 200 my 1517 would only fire half a dozen without having to run a pull through, through it. the cz was better but no way near 200. Quote Link to post
tegater 789
I am no expert, but I have the same model as you, and have a lot of experience with rifles up to .338 cal. I have, so far, not experienced any rifle that would require a 2 ft board, to capture all the rounds at 100, just as a result of using different ammo. Even in .308, the difference between 155 grain and 168 grain is only a matter of centimetre. Just because it is a ballistic tip I cannot see it making that much difference. As I said, I am no expert but, the only time I get flyers, is when I don't concentrate. The nut behind the but. Quote Link to post
The Duncan 802
Could it be that somehow the ballistic tipis getting damaged as it enters the breach? Quote Link to post
tegater 789
Possibly Dunc, but every time, and without the firer noticing that its not a smooth load? All types not grouping I could except, different types grouping slightly differently the same, but a two foot board to capture a group at 100, as against a 1-2cm group is strange. If the tips were getting damaged on the feed ramp to that extent, then the user would feel a difference, if screws were lose or the crown/throat damaged then that would affect all rounds. The only other thing I can think apart from user error, is a bad batch, but in my limited experience with the hmr, this is not in question. Quote Link to post
Markkey633 0
A good shooting buddy of mine is having exactly the same problem! He has tried several different makes including the remmington and hornady rounds without much sucess. With regards to his kit and cleaning you won't meet a more obsessive person for cleaning and detail. He was also a target shooter for many years so it's not thet he can't shoot straight. He is getting very close to getting rid of the gun, which by the way is the same CZ 452. I'm sorry this dosen't help your problem but I'd be very interested if anyone else is suffering the same!! Cheers Quote Link to post
markha 99
I have a cz455 and also have no problems with any of the ammo for it from all manufacturers and all bullet weights. Have you compared the overall length of the ammunition you have? If you shoot a 10 shot string with 15 seconds between shots, does its string vetically or horizontally? Quote Link to post
Jesse James 2
I have a new (4 month old) CZ 452 and had nothing but issues with Winchester rounds. CCI TNT hollow points and 20g FMJ / Hornady 17g red, blue, black tips all group lovely. The Winchester Supreme 17HMR rounds would spit all over the place...? I thought it was me and tried the following, got a mate to load my 10 shot mag with him knowing how he loaded it (noted down on paper) with a mix of CCI Hollow point , FMJ 20g , and Hornady Red, blue and black Tips and I shot at target at 100 yards not knowing what round was being shot at the time. he spotted for me and also noted the hit placement. any way the short story..... the Winchester rounds x 2 were way of centre of target , yet all the others group all in centre of target......??????? not saying this proved it either way but goes to show my rifle does not like that brand of ammo. I also noted that when collecting the empty cases the Winchester rounds had to be pushed bloody hard back into the plastic holder yet the other cases dropped into there holder (same holder used for all ten cases) with no issue. strange almost as if they had got fatter. richmcgin 32
jesse james, your cases will have expanded when fired, they may develop more pressure than the other rounds which will cause more expansion, i dont know if cci manufacture the winni rounds but all the rounds will be loaded to different spec for each customer be it Federal, Hornady or the cci brand. the onlt two things that would cause the problems experienced would be a faulty batch of ammo (unlikely) or the barrel,(more likely).
