milegajo 595
First off, absolute beginner here. Just received our first chickens today. However... Shortly after letting roam in a patch of woodland, one hen started acting weirdly. Firstly I thought she may have swallowed something that got stuck but she has been doing it a while now. She hunkers down and closes her eyes, then beak to the sky stretches her neck and pushes her tongue forward whilst 'wheezing' or 'gasping'. A soft wheeze is probably the most accurate way of describing it. Occasionally she stops and eats and drinks and scratches but shortly after returns to this behaviour. The others are fine. Any advice? Thanks in advance everyone.
chickenstu 3
does her breath smell off at all? Could be roup
milegajo 595
Haven't had a whiff yet. Will do next opportunity. She seems to go through stints. She also appears to be the lowest rank of the pecking order. Gets pecked and pushed around a lot. Will do some research on roup. Thanks chickenstu!
