huntmark 18
A lot of lads struggle to sell pups at all and I would say £120 being the most anyone looks for Quote Link to post

patterdale boy 1
120 that is pretty cheap if its coming from proven lines. the cheapest ive payed for any pup is £200 but i would pay double that if i knew it would turn out a loyal worker. i think im right in saying alot of people on this site would pay the money if they knew for a fact the dog would do the job, rather than take a chance on a cheaper one . . after all if a dog works the way you want it it priceless. 1 Quote Link to post

fish 148
I think that if a pup is sold too cheap it has little or no value. A friend of mine bred his hound and terrier a few years ago he kept two hounds and three terriers, due to an accident he now has two hounds and two terriers and they are all going really well and he is delighted they have never wanted from the day they were born and have the best rearing and handling I have seen. The hounds litter had ten and the terriers had five. The other pups were given away as stud fees and to friends. It has not worked out too well. The remaining pups few even survived many passed from pillar to post and others not taken to the field, we talked at lenght about this and he said if he was to do over he would not do the same, he bred to replensih his kennel his terrier was old and well proven and his hound bitch was doing all he wanted and needed some extra noses to show the ropes, if he was to ever breed again any surplus pups would be £150 not a penny less at least then they have value to the new owner. The prices of pups vary and often reflect the quality of rearing. I think the best thing you can do for a pup is put a price on it then it has value from the start. I would glady pay 150- 300 for the rught pup at then end of the day it costs a great deal more to fet it to working age. iv seen a good a worken terrier pup sold for good money here and the pup is wasted.money ant on good in the terrier game. How do you mean wasted? I think it is better to add value from the start also once there is a sale the seller can not be annoyed but when pups go for free and the new owner lets ther breeder down it is a sickening feeling. If a pup goes for free it has no value not too many can be cavalier with the cost of a dog to just let it go to hell be dumped or sold from pillar to post, I only have 3 friends who I would gift a pup too, the rest will pay a good price for a good pup what ever time i breed which will be a long way off. same i have 1 friend i would give a pup to and its only because i would see it 6 days a week, and know it would be well looked after Quote Link to post
huntmark 18
Totally agree with you all even the price of pet dogs is so much cheaper. I would rather pay that bit extra for a pup bred from workers. Quote Link to post
buster gonads 862
If terrier pups get too expencive then it ends up being a sport that the average working man might not be able to get into, i also believe that the high price of pups has somthing to do with the rise in the number of dogs being lifted out of peoples yards, 15 years ago you could buy a pup either a lurcher or terrier from proven workers for between 30 - 40 pounds , i recently had to pay £300 for a pup i wanted , after saying all that the price of vets fee,s have gone up even steeper. huntmark 18
That's TRUE vet fees are criminal nowadays my local vet was charging me double the rate than another 3 miles down the road it pays to shop around. Maybe the issue of dogs being stolen has something to do with the price too. I was looking on epupz( I know the pups aren't workers) but people looking for £400 for a non working whippet! The most I see them advertised for here is 150E Quote Link to post
MOO 730
the pups from realy proven parents dogs that are tested week in week out with good blood going back generations are usualy given out free and imo the more money a lad wants for his pups means they are usualy wank .... more money =more wank. 2 Quote Link to post
