Just found this in the shootin times,

The minimum calibre to be used against wild boar is the .270 Win, delivering a muzzle energy of 2,700ft/lb, but it is recommended that a calibre of no less than 7mm with a bullet of 160 grains-plus and muzzle energy of no less than 2,800ft/lb should be used.

I know this isn't what you asked, but it warns against using 223 or even 243 as they are that tough and could cause a potential dangerous situation with a wounded animal.

If you already knew this then good luck if not then its a heads up, Keep us posted.

Many years ago whilst on exercise in Germany, I was on duty at night in a large forest. a few wild Boar had wandered into the ground between me and the vehicles. Through the night vision I could clearly make out some young piglets and a few other adult Boars. I felt they were getting too close for comfort so I decided to make a dash for the vehicles. Well I must have upset momma pig because she gave chase! Let me tell you I've never been so scared in all my life, I could hear her getting closer and closer, I must have covered that 100 yds faster than Hussein Bolt!

So I can tell you from experience as far as calibers go, I'd pick the biggest fattest and fastest round available, because I would certainly not want an injured Hog running at me!

No it was the Old PNGs (Passive Night Goggles) I also have stories about firing 30mm RARDEN's (CVRT Scimiters) on Hohne ranges and "Accidentally" hitting a herd of deer running across the range! :whistling:
