i`ve just planted my first cider apple trees "yarlington mill" at my holding, so in a few years will try my hand at making some cider, thier on m25 rootstock so should get pretty big, only 4 trees at the mo but i have got a load of rootstocks growing as i`m going to try grafting some of my dads apples this year so i will graft some more cider trees this time next year.

If anyone whos ever made cider could give some tips or useful links that would be great.

Ive been making cider for years now i found the more you get into it the more interest you get . I cant give you any tips as such as i don't know what you're stuck on . In the past ive always used a mix of Bramleys and desert apples but this oct coming my mate has got free access to a orchard of cider fruit so in order to use my press i have free cider fruit. If you get stuck in any way feel free to pm me any questions

Nice one, made a few gallons of cider myself in the past just mixing apples from vasrious trees.

Always said that as soon as I have a garden right for the job I will plant some cider apple trees, you only get proper cider from cider apples.

Where did you get the trees from?

Andy

I got them from the victoriana nursary, i got 5 trees total so £15 each, i got a crab apple along with the cider trees to help with pollonation as even tho i have a small orchard i`ve never had great crops bar the 3rd year after planting.

How did your cider from normal apples turn out?
