waidmann 105
you can pick them up for around 300 quid mate. (the stress of a lost bird is far higher!!!!!) i am also in telford. i take it you fly a harris then? Quote Link to post
shropshire-lad 9
No i ant got a bird, may be one day like. Iv been reading and talking to people for about two years now as one of my friend had one, but just not ready with kids and i lost me job, so i will keep on reading and talking to people and maybe one day get some heads on and take it from there. I know a lot about them as i have been reading and talking to people for so long. Its just talking that last step. But been thinking when i do get a bob maybe to go for a re-homing one as there is that many out there in need of a good home. Quote Link to post
Lee C 55
Hi rehoming are normally for a reason, these birds can be messed and have problems, A lot of these birds are from people that have not gained experience and now wish they had so just pass the bird with their problems on. I would join a club, volunteer at a centre and get out for a few seasons with experienced falconers. Ask one to be your mentor then decide if its for you. No telemetry is fine until you loose your prized possession then it's the cost of a new bird the telemetry you wish you had purchased and the days nights of searching for you bird you lose. I would get telemetry!! All the best Lee c Quote Link to post
milo 74
Dont leave home without it...you wont be sorry. Quote Link to post
shropshire-lad 9
Thank you for all your replays, volunteer at a center is not a bad idea at all, i will have to see if there is any centers round here and give them a call thanks for that. Quote Link to post
tom 2 9
My female harris chased a cock pheasant about 500 yards but they went down a slope i couldnt see which way they turned if she had no telemetry on i would not have found her she got it in very thick cover i would not go out without it on her. 1 Quote Link to post
Lee C 55
I Had the same when training Vladimir he like to try to chase pigeons he went out of the wood to the left and out of site. I walked up and down the hedge row with a chick and nothing. Got the telemetry out and thought it was not working properly! I thought it was picking up the signal from the wrong end as it was beeping very faint to the right of the wood. Put it on far and still beeping to the right. Followed it and about four fields down in a tree sat. Vlad, I may not have found him without it I was looking about half a mile away in the wrong area. I have used it a few times as I fly him in quite high winds and if he sees a pheasant and it goes he will follow. It gives me an idea what direction to wave the chick!! ATB Lee C Quote Link to post

wayne225tt 2
Find this funny everytime I see a post about HH and telemetry Simple reason for that is I have used my Marshall set more on my FHH that is persistent bugger more then I have the gos She would tail chase pheasant until she had them same with hare , most HH give up but she never would . Even perfect weight and excellent recalls So in my opinion it's a must on all BOP Quote Link to post
stoaty1 35
After flying Harris's for about 15 years I have only used the telemetry a handfull of times but I would never consider flying the bird without it. Nothing to do with the cost of the bird but everything to do with the bond you build with them. A harris at true hunting weight will take on anything and fly any distance to get it. They can be very difficult to find when tucked under hedges, round buildings or even half way down rabbit holes. Quote Link to post
