Dunkanon 380
Hello...anyone know if its possible to switch the red key chips from one key to another, I have had to replace the ignition barrel on my van but the immobiliser is not recognising the new key, been informed its possible to switch the chip from one key to the other but Im having difficulty even removing the red cover on the key ( I think thats a cover anyway) and I dont want to damage it in the process. cheers. Malt 379
Can you start the van by holding the old key close to the barrel? I broke a key on a corsa once and just got a normal key cut, removed the faring from around the steering column, taped the broken key close to the barrel and put the faring back on. I used it like that from then on. I was fecked if I was going to pay the stupid money the main dealers were wanting to recode everything for an old car. Not something I'd do with a decent car though. Dunkanon 380
mmmm thinkin mebbey Im being a bit dumb here, should I have removed the chip from the new key first then tried the old key on/near the barrel as they could be conflicting with each other. mackay 3,260
Sounds right, make the new key just a plain key, no chip and hold the original key, with original chip near the barrel.

Dunkanon 380
Sorted lads, thaks for the help, once I realised that I had to do away with the chip in the new key I wasnt worried about damaging it. So I forced opend the red cap, the chip is inside a capsule which slides out. Put the old key near the barrel and tuned new key, sorted. engine started Once I got that far I opened up the old key took out the chip and put it inside the new key fob resealed cap and now it works just how I wanted it. thanks again lads.
