Cow kneed

Recommended Posts

Hi lads, my mate has a lurcher that walks a bit strange, throwing the back leg out. The dog has no issues running may I add. Not being into running dogs myself, I told him I would throw the issue on here to see what people's views are on this. He's a decent dog day/night though he's been told under no circumstances should he if he ever decides too, breed from this dog ?? What's the scope ?

If the dog covered a bitch some years ago then we can take it its not a youngster, so if it has had this abnormality all its life then its not going to be very fixable as a mature adult with well set

Sounds like a boneman job

if your mate wants the dog checked out go to brian jones in nerwy he is the best about been using him over 20 years and he wont rob you either if you need his number give me a pm

if he is running and working ok and not feeling anything i wouldnt worry to much .obviously if he is feeling anything get him checked asap.but seen a lot of saluki crosses that walk like that when looking at them walking away from you .and obviously other crosses as well .

The dog runs fine without any pain, yeah that's how he noticed it also. What's the cause of that and is it common in lurchers ?

is he stiff or anything the next day? could he had an injury as a pup that has not set right, if not I would say it was a BD so i wouldn't breed as could pass onto pups only breed healthy x healthy

A friend of mine has a saluki /greyhound x deerhound/greyhound and he trots like a pacing horse ,cow hocked to bits but it doesn't bother him much in the field

yes lurcher that's what he's like. I thought because he was a bull x it would have something to do with it, is it just one of those things then ? would you not breed from him because of this ? Edited by MUDD

The dog does all kinds of quarry and has a great prey drive ,but sometimes after a hard nights lamping he can be a bit stiff, and if not kept fit he seems to lose muscle mass a bit quicker than your average lurcher,I personally would not breed from him,but he did breed a litter from his collie x bitch to him a couple of years back, the bitch had 4 pups and all seemed ok

A greyhound chiropractor,I bought a bitch at Xmas and noticed she was flicking here rear leg out took her to a boneman and he found a stress fracture to her rear hock and a strained gracillus, she's been crated for 6 weeks and just started light road work and she has no sign of it now.
