Found A Nice Little Wood Burning Stove

Recommended Posts

I overheard a neighbour asking another if he could borrow her sack barrow so he could move an old stove into his van and then to the scrap yard.

So I asked if I could take a look, it turned out to be a lovely old Little Wenlock MK1, a real classic old stove that is perfectly useable, is probably better quality than most modern ones and parts are easily available.

On inspection it turned out to require a new grate, glass retaining frame, new glass, rear brick repairing with some fire cement and a good rub down and blackening.

Cost of stove £30, parts for repair £80.

It even came with t-piece for the back and about 1.5 metres of flue pipe, enough to get it into the register plate.

I passed it straight onto my best because he is broke and has wanted a stove to replace his open fire for ages.

He was over the moon and is looking forward to doing it up as a little project.

Wow nice find.

I bet you're right about the quality unless you pay silly money for a top brand. Even with the vents shut you can hear air getting sucked in round the edges of the door because of a bad fit. Made in China!

Bet your mate gets a lot of enjoyment out of it :)

Too true mate, this ones that well engineered that the door fits so tight you wouldn't need fire rope to seal it.

what do you think it would be worth once restored a little bit? I know they are bloody expensive that's all, could be a good invest (if you hadn't given it away :tongue2: )

Once renovated you could get between £200 and £250 pounds for it on ebay.

So I could have made a profit of between £90 and £140 after buying parts.

I felt better passing it onto my mate because he needed it, has had a tough year and deserved a bit of good luck.

Money is'nt everything
