Bootsha 1,306
one of the fastest rounds available by all account. Quote Link to post
SportingShooter 0
Reputation as a barrel burner I suppose. Other than that, ammunition isn't going to be very varied, better to hand load. It would equal very dead Foxes with a fast ballistic tipped round. Quote Link to post
Rake aboot 4,936
I wondered about barrel lif ereally,, it`s an old gn, so not sure it`s worth going for, from what I`ve read, barrel life suffers Quote Link to post
jamie g 17
you would be better going for a 22/250 imo. not far off the heals of the 220 swift for speed. and more factory ammo out there for it. Quote Link to post
Rake aboot 4,936
22/250 is OK, just too bloody loud, Quote Link to post
jamie g 17
22/250 is OK, just too bloody loud, mate it will be no different to the 220 swift. if anything the swift will be louder, it burns more powder and has faster speeds. both = more noise Quote Link to post
SNAP SHOT 194
memory from the old days, my mate used to shoot a swift, very accurately, hand loaded, but factory rounds where also good, very loud, i got a full on blast from over the top of the jeep when i was driving, and window down, couldn't hear for 2 days... and thought i was gonna be deaf for life....!!! Advise is to check availability for ammo from a few local rfd's also price difference between that and .223 etc. Quote Link to post
Rake aboot 4,936
I`v decided against it , it`s an old gun, so can`t trust the barrel not to be shot out, Stick with the trusty 243 for the time being,,although I do fancy a 22 CF. Quote Link to post
SportingShooter 0
.222, .223, .22-250 all perfectly acceptable Foxing rounds I shoot the .222 and it just loves being accurate. Quote Link to post
Rake aboot 4,936
TBH I`d want it to be deer legal as well, I`ll have a look about and see what I think, I like 222, but then 223 is the bllocks as well. Quote Link to post

Looks like you already have it, the 243 should be spot on for fox and deer, theres plenty of various factory ammo for it ......75g - 100g Or are we thinking its time for a change Quote Link to post
Rake aboot 4,936
not so much a change, as an addition lol You can never have too many rifles right ?? Quote Link to post

SNAP SHOT 194
As far as your concerned you have the perfect rifle for both fox and deer, And if you dont reload its about time you started to invest in it rather than another rifle IMHO... i got a custom rifle built in .243 And absolutely love the calibre to bits, for foxing i use 87g v max, and deer i use the 95g sst, or the 100 BTSP, or the 105 A-max... for me its the only gun i'll ever need apart from my .17hmr for a little bunny bashing corvid fun...
