kimjones3 0 Posted February 29, 2012 Report Share Posted February 29, 2012 Hiya, I dunno if anyone can help, I have loads of rats in my garden, probably caused by my husbands chickens and then the next door neighbour had seven on her lawn, does anyone know if these can be got rid of with dogs or ferrets and if so does anyone know of someone that can do it for me, i live in the Watford area. Thanks Had a few chooks for the garden and in no time old Rattus norvegicus had moved in (nightmare to get rid of) had them living in the garage, even went out to put some rubbish in the bin and one jumped over me arm Chooks now gone and the eggs from the coop taste just as nice Quote Link to post Share on other sites
AndyKelly 251 Posted March 2, 2012 Report Share Posted March 2, 2012 if you get the remenants from a ferret cage ( dirt etc) and spread the stuff round the rat holes the rats cant stand the smell of it. i was inundated with rats last year with keeping chickens and i was sceptical myself when someone told me this old tale but i tried it and i havent had a rat in the chicken pens since Quote Link to post Share on other sites
the_stig 6,614 Posted March 2, 2012 Report Share Posted March 2, 2012 make a box for the fenn traps -- i use live traps if i have to in gardens -- have a good tidy up move any wood piles or likeley places whr rats will get , even compost heaps .. keep every whr clean and tidy ..
