patterdalejoel 669
what protein and other nutritional requirments should i be looking for in my dry dog food for my 16 week old first cross beddy whippet? i have been told you dont need more than 21% protein, but i have seen almost 30% and seen as low as 7%. so what should i be aiming for for the pup? and other things such as fat and fibre? cheers
sandymere 8,263
In studies growth is retarded below 17% protein. I raised my last youngster on 24% and he did well, previously I’ve used higher protein completes and again have had no problems. Most decent puppy completes will give good results, I add in table scraps, meat and soft bones to add variety. But keep in mind that there needs to be a balance of nutrients so adding in to much of any one thing can cause problems i.e. to much bone causing constipation or at worse bowel obstruction or growth abnormalities.
